Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has made a decision on his future after previous transfer links with Manchester United<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Dutch midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford<\/a> in the summer of 2022, having previously been under the guidance of then-United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax.<\/p>\n

Despite agreeing on a fee with Barcelona in June 2022, the anticipated transfer to M16 never came to fruition, and De Jong remained at Camp Nou. As the <\/a>Manchester Evening News<\/a> reported in 2018<\/a>, United also had the chance to sign the midfielder and his teammate Matthijs de Ligt<\/a> before they made their first-team debuts for Ajax in 2016.<\/p>\n

The Dutchman started in Barca’s 7-3 win over FC Seoul in his team’s second game of their Asia Tour on Thursday. De Jong has made 259 appearances for Barcelona since joining the club in 2019 from Ajax.<\/p>\n

And he now looks to stay in Catalonia for the foreseeable future. The 28-year-old has confirmed that he will sign a new contract with the La Liga champions.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I\u2019m gonna sign new deal with Barcelona,” he said via Fabrizio Romano on X<\/a> (Twitter).<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very happy at the club, I didn\u2019t sign yet but it\u2019s gonna happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Midfield is a priority position the Reds are targeting this summer<\/a>. Uncertainty still surrounds the future<\/a> of Casemiro<\/a>, while Christian Eriksen<\/a> has left after his contract expired at the end of June.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo<\/a> has turned down the opening offer of a new deal from United<\/a> during negotiations.<\/p>\n
