\n President Donald Trump said his foreign envoy Steve Witkoff will travel to Russia in the coming days as the president calls for an end to the conflict in Ukraine.\n <\/p>\n
\n Trump revealed Witkoff\u2019s previously unknown travel plans during an event at the White House Thursday afternoon, where he also said he planned to apply new sanctions on Moscow and described Russia\u2019s continued assaults on Kyiv as \u201cdisgusting.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe\u2019s going to Russia, believe it or not,\u201d Trump said when questioned about Witkoff\u2019s current trip to the Middle East, where he is meeting with officials to discuss Israel\u2019s war in Gaza.\n <\/p>\n
\n Additional details on Witkoff\u2019s upcoming travel were not immediately available.\n <\/p>\n
\n Witkoff\u2019s last known visit to Russia was in April, when he met President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin. Those talks did not yield an immediate breakthrough in bringing the Ukraine war to an end. And since then, Trump\u2019s frustration toward Putin has increased as prospects for peace grow dim.\n <\/p>\n
\n Trump vented that anger Thursday when questioned about Moscow\u2019s latest barrage of missiles and drones aimed toward Ukraine.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cI think it\u2019s disgusting what they\u2019re doing. I think it\u2019s disgusting,\u201d he said.\n <\/p>\n
\n And while he affirmed that he planned to apply new sanctions on Russia \u2014 which he\u2019d previously threatened if Moscow didn\u2019t agree to a peace deal by next week \u2014 he also downplayed the effect they might have on the course of the war or Putin\u2019s mindset.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cYeah, we\u2019re going to put sanctions,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t know that sanctions bother him. You know, they know about sanctions. I know better than anybody about sanctions and tariffs and everything else.
