including a 35 per cent levy on Canada.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday evening in Washington, the President confirmed a host of countries would be issued tariffs, with some as high as 41 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Canada &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/money\/donald-trump-tariff-canada-mexico-us-gdp\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">which had been targeted in March this year<\/a> shortly after Trump returned to office &#8211; was handed some stern words as it faced new fees, effective from August 1.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In response to Canada&#8217;s continued inaction and retaliation, President Trump has found it necessary to increase the tariff on Canada from 25 per cent to 35 per cent to effectively address the existing emergency,&#8221; flooding America&#8217;s borders, it added.<\/p>\n<p>But Britain was handed the lowest rate of all the countries listed, securing a 10 per cent duty &#8211; the same as it did when Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/politics\/us\/donald-trump-tariffs-liberation-day-crisis-uk-trade\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">rolled out his &#8220;Liberation Day&#8221; tariffs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the UK, just two other countries or territories were handed a 10 per cent tariff, one of which being the Falkland Islands.<\/p>\n<p>The other was Brazil &#8211; despite Trump signing an executive order to hit the South American giant with 50 per cent duties <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/politics\/us\/donald-trump-brazil-tariffs-jair-bolsonaro\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">amid a &#8220;witch-hunt&#8221; shortly after midnight on Friday in Britain &#8211; India&#8217;s US-bound exports would see 25 per cent tariffs, 20 per cent for Taiwan&#8217;s and 30 per cent for South Africa&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Syria was handed the highest rate at 41 per cent, while southeast Asian pair Laos and Myanmar received 40 per cent each.<\/p>\n<p>One senior American official explained that the 10 per cent rate applied to any nation with which the US enjoyed a trade surplus.<\/p>\n<p>That applies to the UK and Brazil of the countries in Trump&#8217;s latest list.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"3dcfe\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"4b60a321afc9f81c7e38c045fd821530\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%205500%203667'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/people-wave-syrian-opposition-flags-as-they-gather-at-oranienplatz-square-after-syrian-rebels-announ.jpeg\" width=\"5500\" height=\"3667\" alt=\"People wave Syrian opposition flags, as they gather at Oranienplatz square, after Syrian rebels announced that they have ousted Syria's Bashar al-Assad, in Berlin, Germany\"\/>REUTERS | <\/p>\n<p>Syria received the highest tariff rate at 41 per cent<\/p>\n<p>The official added that a 15 per cent rate would be dished out to countries with a &#8220;small deficit&#8221;, as well as the EU.<\/p>\n<p>Brussels has been handed a two-stage tariff which effectively sets levies at a minimum of 15 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>For all the countries in the list, the new levies will come into effect on August 7, in exactly one week.<\/p>\n<p>Goods which are already loaded onto ships by August 7, and those that are already in transit, will not be affected by the rates.<\/p>\n<p>                DONALD TRUMP&#8217;S AUGUST 7 TARIFFS &#8211;
