A pair of teenagers will appear in court after parked cars were “stripped of parts” in Yardley<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Police were called to Yardley Road after people in balaclavas were spotted removing the headlights, bonnet and bumper off a Toyota Corolla around 3am on Wednesday (April 16).<\/p>\n

The police were then informed of another Corolla being targeted in Clements Road close by.<\/p>\n

A suspicious car was stopped and searched and two teenagers aged 15 and 19 were arrested on suspicion of a range of offences, including theft from a motor vehicle and going equipped.<\/p>\n

They were remanded in custody and will appear before a court.<\/p>\n

A drill, gloves, crowbar, balaclava, wrench and screwdriver were also recovered.<\/p>\n

A statement read: “We\u2019ve arrested and charged two suspected car cannibals after quick work by officers in Birmingham<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“We were called just before 3am yesterday after people wearing balaclavas were spotted stripping a Toyota Corolla of its headlights, bonnet and bumper in Yardley Road, before making off in another car.<\/p>\n

“A short time later, we were alerted to another Corolla bring stripped of its parts in nearby Clements Road.<\/p>\n

“Officers searched the area and found a car suspected of being involved in the thefts, stinging it and arresting two teenagers aged 15 and 19.<\/p>\n

“A drill, gloves, crowbar, balaclava, wrench and screwdriver were all recovered.<\/p>\n

“Both teenagers were later charged with a range of offences, including theft from a motor vehicle and going equipped, and remanded in custody to appear before court.<\/p>\n

“We know the major impact and inconvenience car cannibalism can have on drivers, and our dedicated vehicle organised crime team work hard to identify and arrest those responsible.<\/p>\n
