Mark Danby, a UK expat who hails from Stockport, Greater Manchester, ditched his life in Britain for an enviable existence on the sun-kissed shores of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/travel\/man-quits-uk-spain-left-35564554\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Spain, namely Manilva, a municipality in Malaga on the Costa del Sol<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">However, it seems that he has found it difficult to forget some aspects of life in the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/travel\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">UK<\/a>, particularly one of the nation&#8217;s delicacies. Luckily for him, the British favourite of fish and chips appears to be readily available in his new home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Mark, who shares his <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/europe\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">continental <\/a>exploits on his fledgling YouTube channel, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@MarksGrandTapasTour-x5c\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Tapas Guy<\/a>, recently found <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/lifestyle\/food-drink\/uks-priciest-fish-chips-sold-35649967\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">himself craving fish and chips <\/a>and decided to visit a local chippy known as Marlows in CC Los Hidalgos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He decided to order a large cod and chips for \u20ac16.95 (approximately \u00a314.65) and sat outside to eat his meal. When it arrived, Mark noted the &#8220;humongous&#8221; size of the portion.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1_Brit-orders-fish-and-chips-in-Spain-and-is-floored-when-he-tastes-it.jpg\" alt=\"YouTuber Mark Danby eats a fish and chips \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Mark noted the &#8220;humongous&#8221; size of the portion<br \/>\n(Image: Tapas Guy\/YouTube)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Indeed, conceding that he perhaps shouldn&#8217;t have &#8220;gone for large&#8221;, Mark unwrapped the paper to reveal not one but two <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/lifestyle\/food-drink\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">fish<\/a> in what appeared on camera to be a huge <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/restaurants\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">portion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Despite this, when it came to the tasting, Mark was left unimpressed. Sampling the chips first, he said: &#8220;I mean, it&#8217;s okay, but it&#8217;s a little bit greasy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Don&#8217;t know if you can see the grease on that, but certainly not crispy. Sort of a bit soggy, bit sort of bendy. I think it needs a sauce. Not particularly tasty, unfortunately. I mean, they&#8217;re okay.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Next up was the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/food\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">cod<\/a>, which he also described as &#8220;greasy&#8221;, although he conceded the second piece was &#8220;crispy on the top&#8221; and looked a &#8220;little bit better&#8221; underneath.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He noted that it was a &#8220;bit flaky&#8221;, but it &#8220;doesn&#8217;t hold the flakiness&#8221; and proceeded to push pieces of it onto his work, but it &#8220;kind of just mushes together&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1754022192_328_1_Brit-orders-fish-and-chips-in-Spain-and-is-floored-when-he-tastes-it.jpg\" alt=\"YouTuber Mark Danby eats a fish and chips  &#10;\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/> Mark appeared to soften his opinion of the meal later on<br \/>\n(Image: Tapas Guy\/YouTube)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He added: &#8220;I&#8217;m afraid the fish is absolutely tasteless. So what you&#8217;re left with&#8230;tasteless. I&#8217;m afraid it&#8217;s tasteless fish and greasy batter. Let&#8217;s try this piece of batter.
