Specifically, the law that an object at rest will remain at rest unless an outside force acts upon it, aka Newton&#8217;s First Law of Motion; and the law that when one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object exerts an equal and opposite force on the first, Newton&#8217;s equally (but not oppositely) successful\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www1.grc.nasa.gov\/beginners-guide-to-aeronautics\/newtons-laws-of-motion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" style=\"box-sizing: border-box; text-decoration-skip-ink: auto; color: rgb(104, 127, 30); text-decoration: underline;\">Third Law of Motion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px 0px 1.5rem; font-weight: 400; line-height: 1.75; letter-spacing: 0.5px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Karla, sans-serif; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial;\">The key part here is an outside\u00a0force. The magnet, despite being dangled in front of the car like a carrot in front of a donkey, is still part of the same system as the car, attached by a bar and\/or rope.
