As on July 4 in the U.S., people celebrate with fireworks and parades.<\/p>\n<p>The Swiss might not be in the mood this year, though, after coming off far worse than the EU, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/us-and-eu-strike-trade-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">struck a last-minute deal<\/a> with President Donald Trump to lock in a 15 percent baseline tariff. The U.K. meanwhile <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/what-is-and-isnt-included-in-the-uk-us-trade-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pays 10 percent<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Although U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/trump-hails-total-reset-us-china-geneva-trade-talks-bessent-he-lifeng\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visited Switzerland for trade talks<\/a> in May, they were with Chinese officials. That has left the Alpine nation, and its big financial and pharmaceuticals sectors, out in the cold.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Council, the country\u2019s collective government, expressed \u201cgreat regret that, despite the progress made in bilateral talks and Switzerland\u2019s very constructive stance from the outset, the U.S. intends to impose unilateral additional tariffs on imports from Switzerland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSwitzerland has been and remains in contact with the relevant U.S. authorities. It continues to seek a negotiated solution with the U.S. that accords with Swiss law and its obligations under international law,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BR_Sprecher\/status\/1951161888164741263\" target=\"_blank\">it said on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The new Swiss tariff is even higher than the 31 percent that Trump first announced on \u201cLiberation Day\u201d back in April.
