\n\tEven though Jason Isaacs<\/a> has checked out of The White Lotus<\/a>, the actor still intends to honor his character Timothy Ratliff\u2019s Duke University<\/a> pride.<\/p>\n

\n\tIsaacs appeared on Literally! With Rob Lowe<\/a> on Thursday and unknowingly ran into a family member of a former Duke student \u2014 Lowe\u2019s eldest son, Matthew, attended the university.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI didn\u2019t wear [a Duke T-shirt] today, if I\u2019d known [Lowe\u2019s son was a Duke alum,] I\u2019d have it on now,\u201d Isaacs added. \u201cBut I am intending to wear them whenever there\u2019s a camera around, so sorry, Duke. There goes my honorary degree.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe topic of conversation prompted Lowe to discuss the show\u2019s controversy with Isaacs\u2019 character wearing a T-shirt<\/a> with its logo while contemplating suicide. In response to Duke\u2019s statement<\/a>, he\u2019s previously said that \u201cthe notion that this rather spiritually enlightened character on television caused them any trouble is fanciful and ridiculous,\u201d now adding that the school should \u201cbe far more worried\u201d about \u201creal-life alumni\u201d as opposed to his character on Mike White\u2019s hit TV show.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSomeone at Duke decided that was really untoward and was not happy with the association,\u201d he said. \u201cOther people online were pointing out that there\u2019s real-life alumni of Duke to be far more worried about than a fictional alumni.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe English actor explained that he brought up the idea for Timothy to wear a Duke T-shirt to the show\u2019s costume designer, Alex Bovaird. \u201cI said, \u2018Maybe he wears a Duke T-shirt to sleep in,\u2019 so, we got a Duke T-shirt for me to wear when I\u2019m sleeping in it,\u201d he said, adding that he\u2019s \u201cpretty sure\u201d the team \u201cgot it cleared\u201d for him to be able to wear the apparel, despite Duke publicly disapproving of the show using its logo.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m pretty sure they got it cleared because, as you know, you don\u2019t ever go on television without getting all the logos cleared,\u201d he said. \u201cThere are scenes in [White Lotus<\/a>] in which I\u2019m suicidal and even homicidal, and they are the ones in which I\u2019m wearing my Duke T-shirt because it\u2019s bedtime.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDespite all the controversy, Isaacs affirmed he had no plan of shedding his Duke pride anytime soon. He recounted a story of fans gifting him more Blue Devil T-shirts and commending him for his \u201cDurham, North Carolina, accent\u201d during a recent convention appearance.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was in Virginia, and people drove from Durham, North Carolina, very sweetly, just to tell me that they thought my accent was accurate and I shouldn\u2019t listen to the people who don\u2019t know what a Durham, North Carolina, accent is,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd they brought me Duke T-shirts, so now I have a selection of Duke T-shirts.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter the Duke x White Lotus fiasco erupted online, The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> spoke to Duke students to hear their take on the drama. Alex Berkman, a sophomore at the school, believes that while the show dealt with \u201cvery sensitive material,\u201d the university releasing a statement \u201cbr[ought] more attention to Duke than they probably would have wanted.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added, \u201cThe statement doesn\u2019t actually do anything. \u2026 I think Duke was so concerned that it was going to give us a bad reputation, that\u2019s why they released a statement.<\/p>\n
