This is the second venue on the same street that has been handed the lowest possible rating recently\"CornerCorner Cafe, Fairfield.<\/p>\n

A Liverpool cafe has been hit with a zero-star hygiene rating. Corner Cafe has been serving breakfast, lunch and sandwiches from Prescot<\/a> Road for more than a decade.<\/p>\n

The Fairfield venue has an old-school way of working, informing the customers of the week\u2019s menu on a chalkboard. Typically, customers have the choice of pasta, waffles, smoothies, and Sunday Roasts with three meat options available. However, just last month, the business was slapped with an abysmal hygiene rating.<\/p>\n

The ECHO reached out to the business on several occasions<\/a> for comment, but without success. On Monday, June 23, environmental health inspectors working in partnership with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) gave the venue a zero hygiene rating.<\/p>\n

On the date of the inspection, several concerns had been raised about conditions inside the takeaway, with \u201curgent improvement necessary\u201d. The environmental health workers said improvement was needed in food handling, cleanliness, the condition of the facilities and buildings, and food safety management.<\/p>\n

Liverpool Council<\/a>\u2019s environmental health service conducts food hygiene inspections to ensure that food served to the public is safe to eat.<\/p>\n

Officers can turn up unannounced and can take food samples and photographs to support any investigation. Unless there is an immediate risk to health, businesses that received bad ratings are given time to make changes so that things improve.<\/p>\n

They can also ask to be re-inspected or appeal the verdict handed down by officials. A brief report available on the FSA website said the business needed to make \u201curgent improvements ” in food preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling, and storage.<\/p>\n

The same was said for the venue\u2019s layout, ventilation, and hand-washing facilities.<\/p>\n

It comes just days after the ECHO reported on the same street, just a stone\u2019s throw away, that Cubana African Cuisine also received a zero-star rating. The restaurant specialises in Cameroonian and other African dishes and offers catering and event services.<\/p>\n

The Prescot<\/a> Road venue is known for its traditional serving of dishes, including Ndole (Cameroonian Bitterleaf), Eru (organic green vegetables cooked with meat and fish), Jollof Rice (a West African rice dish), and more.<\/p>\n

On its website, Cubana African Cuisine invites guests to \u201csit down and relax\u201d in the three-storey complex while watching sports events on the three large screens.<\/p>\n

The venue also boasts a VIP lounge and a function room to cater for birthdays, christenings, stag and engagement parties.
