Chief among these is the Volhynia massacre during World War II, when thousands of Poles were killed by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cKarol Nawrocki stressed that he represents the voice of the Nation, which demands a change in Ukraine&#8217;s approach to important and still unresolved historical issues. This needs to change,\u201d Nawrocki \u2018s spokesperson Rafa\u0142 Le\u015bkiewicz <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LeskiewiczRafa\/status\/1950855052383695289\">wrote on X<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nWhile Nawrocki shares political roots with outgoing President Andrzej Duda, his tone contrasts sharply with that of his predecessor, who remained one of Zelenskyy\u2019s closest allies after Russia\u2019s 2022 invasion.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIn November 2024, Polish and Ukrainian foreign ministers hailed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/politics\/news\/poland-ukraine-edge-closer-towards-exhumations-in-wwii-row\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">progress<\/a> on the historical dispute and said they were working toward the exhumation of victims. A year earlier, Duda and Zelenskyy jointly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/politics\/news\/poland-ukraine-pay-joint-homage-to-polish-victims-of-wwiis-upa-massacre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">commemorated<\/a> the 80th anniversary of the massacre.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nDespite the harder line, Nawrocki reaffirmed Poland\u2019s support for Ukraine\u2019s fight against Russian aggression.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cRussia is a neo-imperial and colonial state, ruled by a war criminal, Vladimir Putin.
