The Stewards’ Cup presents the type of intellectual challenge that would threaten to leave even Albert Einstein shrugging his shoulders and twiddling his moustache.<\/p>\n

As a great lover of order and reason, you suspect he would take a fairly dim view of a big-field sprint that in six of the last eight years has been won by horses at 18-1 or bigger. At the end of a week in which even a 150-1 pacemaker has landed a Group 1, here we have a race in which the draw, ground and, ultimately, luck play central roles.<\/p>\n

So, how on earth do you solve a problem like the Stewards’ Cup? Well, perhaps the best person to ask is last year’s winning trainer George Baker, who scored with 40-1 shot Get It. The seven-year-old is back, this time after proving his victory was no fluke when winning another historic handicap, the Wokingham Stakes. He is fairly prominent in the market alongside the well-backed Hammer The Hammer and Elmonjed, whose jockey Jim Crowley struck with the last winning favourite, Khaadem, six years ago.<\/p>\n
