Nearly every table was taken by Gulf guests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-6-CBZJYYD2HBDZPFNCQB6GKI6MXQ\">\u201cI came here at the beginning of July to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/opinion\/comment\/2025\/07\/21\/how-the-gulf-could-emerge-as-a-global-hub-for-wellness-travel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/opinion\/comment\/2025\/07\/21\/how-the-gulf-could-emerge-as-a-global-hub-for-wellness-travel\/\">escape the heat<\/a> and enjoy the summer,\u201d said Aya from Saudi Arabia. \u201cAfter two weeks, a wave of fellow Gulf tourists arrived.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-8-32GB2N6QRFGWXLLFP54ILZRR44\">\u201cWe come every year, but this year feels different. It\u2019s like the whole Gulf moved here,\u201d she added, holding up her phone case showing the flags of Saudi Arabia and France side by side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-9-YDAAC2VVPBHZJD7PROLJBSQKZQ\">The Gulf presence isn\u2019t just felt in restaurants. It stretches to the beaches. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-10-FGLTQDDNCVH7VGV5BFQFCKJPHU\">At one family-friendly beach club just before sunset, the calm sea was filled with swimmers from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and other<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/business\/aviation\/2025\/07\/15\/etihad-air-announces-seven-new-routes-with-focus-on-caucasus-and-central-asia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/business\/aviation\/2025\/07\/15\/etihad-air-announces-seven-new-routes-with-focus-on-caucasus-and-central-asia\/\"> neighbouring states<\/a>. Six different groups stood waist-deep in the water, chatting in various Arabic dialects, with only one French couple nearby.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-12-PQVKMGKHBRAIPDF2737EGA6VCA\">\u201cAre we in Cannes or in Bahrain?\u201d one man joked to his friends, laughing as he realised he was surrounded by people from his region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-13-GUEKRGM7MNB73IZBI4G7EVFXXU\">Each summer, tens of thousands of Gulf tourists escape the searing heat back home for cooler destinations like France, the UK, and Spain. The French Riviera remains one of their favourites.<\/p>\n<p><b>Mediterranean escape<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-15-FVBK4LOKONHLNJ3E4UTV34DSWE\">Gulf visitors are known for their high spending power, filling five-star hotels and crowding luxury boutiques along the famed Croisette beach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-16-F3YLZYYLNNFCDBNIC2H2WYW7R4\">In 2024, travellers from GCC countries made approximately 24.4 million outbound trips, spending about $75.4\u202fbillion abroad, according to Gulf figures and VisitBritain\u2019s market data.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-17-6HGZUFICX5CVPEA5BYPC567MOU\">With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/future\/technology\/2025\/07\/28\/gps-middle-east-spoofing-alternative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/future\/technology\/2025\/07\/28\/gps-middle-east-spoofing-alternative\/\">more airlines<\/a> launching from the Gulf and competition intensifying to win over travellers, the GCC outbound tourism market is projected to grow to $81\u202fbillion in 2025 and could reach between $139 billion \u2013$198\u202fbillion by the mid-2030s, according to travel experts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-18-JP5X4PASHZAZFGZIE45YEAG6FE\">France alone welcomes more than 100 million international visitors annually, generating tens of billions in tourism revenue. GCC nationals form a growing slice of that, though exact numbers for July visits are not publicly available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-19-PNDCDWRZ7NDWTE2ZKXKM3LV364\">In Antibes, 20 minutes from Cannes, two men sat on one of the Riviera\u2019s most exclusive beaches, gazing at the multicoloured blue sea framed by green hills and dotted with boats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-21-Y2TU6LXXFFGI3MJOSGEMDDXVUQ\">\u201cI love this view,\u201d one of them said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/news\/uae\/2025\/06\/20\/gulf-connections-a-date-with-a-town-called-mecca-in-california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/news\/uae\/2025\/06\/20\/gulf-connections-a-date-with-a-town-called-mecca-in-california\/\">Saudi <\/a>dialect. \u201cBut it\u2019s a little too calm being here. I don\u2019t want to just relax, let\u2019s go somewhere else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-22-FKANYDSL6JERLELV7ADMIDNOPU\">The nearby old town of Antibes bustles with tourists in summer. Its narrow streets are packed, and its cafes buzz around the clock with people from all over the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-23-5EGSELK6VNC4TKKIUJ6I5RPUJM\">But Gulf visitors stand out. In nearly every cafe, Arabic can be heard, and some waiters have even learnt a few Arabic phrases to use with regulars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-24-5RNVUXY34ZHELIYTXPN3C4K3CQ\">\u201cThe South of France is Mediterranean, and it feels closer to our hearts,\u201d Aya said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 huqwQJ margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-25-V4HE2FQ7F5HIND42JVYANSY74M\">\u201cI wouldn\u2019t want to live here, but coming every summer for a few weeks makes life more exciting. I randomly bump into neighbours and people I haven\u2019t seen in years.
