Fans hoping for a slice of nostalgia on their new shirts will be disappointed<\/p>\n

Manchester United<\/a> fans are not able to get the names of three of the club’s legends on the back of kits, it has been confirmed.<\/p>\n

United released their new home shirt in June and their new away shirt last month.<\/p>\n

Fans flocked to the Old Trafford<\/a> megastore to get decked out for the new campaign.<\/p>\n

However, supporters hoping for a slice of nostalgia on the new shirts will be left disappointed.<\/p>\n

A sign at the store says the club are unable to print the names of iconic number 7s Eric Cantona, David Beckham or Cristiano Ronaldo<\/a> due to ‘licensing restrictions.’<\/p>\n

A club source confirmed the club does not own the former players’ trademarks and therefore does not have the ability or licence right to print their names.<\/p>\n

The situation is not new and has been the case for several years, the source said.<\/p>\n

It is said to be the same at Real Madrid, who are also not allowed to print the name of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is also an icon at the Bernab\u00e9u, they added.<\/p>\n

Many supporters said they were surprised at the rule.<\/p>\n

“That’s really weird” one United fan said on X, formerly Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Modern football just gets weirder” another said.<\/p>\n

A third said: “What if I call my son Beckham and he wants his own name on his shirt?”<\/p>\n
