LRO imagery of the <strong>Marius Hills pit crater<\/strong> and the Mare Tranquillitatis pit has already shown floors cloaked in deep shadow, even under high sunlight angles, strengthening the case for further investigation.<\/p>\n<p>These features could serve as natural shelters, protecting astronauts and sensitive equipment from <strong>radiation<\/strong>, <strong>extreme temperature swings<\/strong>, and <strong>frequent micrometeorite impacts<\/strong>. Within these caves, scientists also expect to find pristine material untouched for billions of years.<\/p>\n<p>A Step Toward Sustainable Lunar Outposts<\/p>\n<p>Beyond their scientific value, these lunar caves could be vital for building permanent infrastructure on the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailygalaxy.com\/2025\/07\/moon-dust-holds-water-and-oxygen-sunlight\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"95833\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moon<\/a>.
