{"id":310674,"date":"2025-08-02T01:17:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-02T01:17:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/310674\/"},"modified":"2025-08-02T01:17:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-02T01:17:17","slug":"creative-and-culture-drives-record-visitors-to-west-yorkshire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/310674\/","title":{"rendered":"Creative and culture drives record visitors to West Yorkshire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>73million visitors went to West Yorkshire in 2024, driven by creative and cultural events, such as Bradford UK City of Culture.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s according to new figures, which show visitor numbers were up 3% on the previous year, with spending in the local economy rising 7.8% to \u00a36.26 billion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The tourism and hospitality sector now supports 54,000 jobs for local people, up by 2.6%.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fantastic that more people are visiting the region and seeing everything we have to offer,\u201d said Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd these record figures clearly show that culture isn\u2019t just nice to have \u2013 it helps us create good jobs, vibrant places and economic growth. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why we\u2019re investing in culture, heritage and sport, and putting West Yorkshire on the map as the place to be.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuilding on this legacy with even more investment and opportunities will attract more people to a stronger, brighter West Yorkshire that works for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of Bradford\u2019s year as City of Culture, Kirklees, Leeds, Calderdale and Wakefield rolled out a series of performances, exhibitions and projects to showcase creativity.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.prolificnorth.co.uk\/news\/meaningless-concept-or-tourism-hotspot-how-bradford-2025\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.prolificnorth.co.uk\/news\/meaningless-concept-or-tourism-hotspot-how-bradford-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">READ MORE \u2013 \u2018Meaningless concept\u2019 or tourism hotspot? How Bradford 2025 will kick start West Yorkshire\u2019s tourism revolution<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s truly inspiring to see the combined and sustained efforts of cities across the region to put culture at the heart of life in West Yorkshire bearing fruit in such impressive fashion,\u201d added Cllr James Lewis, Leader of Leeds City Council and Chair of West Yorkshire Combined Authority\u2019s Economy Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have long championed the huge social, economic and reputational value of culture and the arts and the unique power they have to unite and galvanise cities and communities to be their best.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese figures demonstrate that by putting our faith in culture, we can drive economic growth, inward investment and job creation, all while putting our cities on the map and making them incredible, exciting places to live, work and visit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The research was carried out by Global Tourism Solutions UK, using the STEAM Economic Impact of Tourism Model.
