A troubled discount retail giant has confirmed the locations of 12 more store closures, including one in Birmingham<\/a>.<\/p>\n Among the latest closures is the Poundland shop in Erdington<\/a>\u2019s High Street.<\/p>\n It will shut for the final time at the end of the month on Sunday, August 31.<\/p>\n The Erdington shop follows previously announced closures in Birmingham at Kings Heath<\/a> \u2019s High Street, the Sheldon shop in Coventry Road and the Fort Poundland, also in the Erdington area<\/p>\n Read more: Poundland announces 12 more store closures including in Birmingham and Coventry<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n The closures are part of the Walsall-headquartered firm\u2019s \u2018restructuring and recovery plan\u2019 aimed at getting it back to growth.<\/p>\n Also announced as part of the latest closures are shops in Blackburn, Cookstown in Northern Ireland. Kimberley and Omagh outlets in Nottingham, Horsham in West Sussex, the Hull Holderness shop, Irvine in Scotland. Kettering, Shepherds Bush ion London, Southport in Merseyside and Taunton in Somerset.<\/p>\n Poundland said it has told staff members at the 12 newly announced closures of their fate this week.<\/p>\n It said the firm\u2019s restructuring and recovery plan launched in June,and aims to address an \u2018extended period of under-performance and deliver a financially sustainable operating model\u2019.<\/p>\n The changes will see some 68 store closures, with other shops closing when leases expire \u2013 like the one in Sutton Coldfield<\/a> \u2019s Parade last September<\/a>.<\/p>\n Poundland said it expects to have around 650 to 700 shops down from \u2018around 800 today\u2019.<\/p>\n The business has already announced the closures of 37 other shops in recent weeks, all set to close in August. With three more already closed Swiss Cottage on April 20, Chiswick on May 28 and Southampton West Quay on June 9.<\/p>\n Read more: Poundland shutting stores across UK ahead of 68 closures<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Poundland\u2019s retail director Darren MacDonald said the closure programme has the intention of securing the future of thousands of jobs and hundreds of stores.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cWhen a store nearby closes, we understand how disappointing that is for customers, but nevertheless look forward to welcoming them to another Poundland store in the future.<\/p>\n \u201cWork is underway to with colleagues through a formal consultation process in stores scheduled to close, exploring any suitable alternative roles.\u201d<\/p>\n Get the latest BirminghamLive news direct to your inbox<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Poundland said the court-sanctioned restructuring and recovery process that was launched in June applies to creditors in the UK.<\/p>\n It does not cover Poundland\u2019s store operations in the Republic of Ireland and Isle of Man, where it trades as Dealz nor propose any changes for trade suppliers in both the UK and Republic of Ireland.<\/p>\n
