{"id":311151,"date":"2025-08-02T05:40:15","date_gmt":"2025-08-02T05:40:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/311151\/"},"modified":"2025-08-02T05:40:15","modified_gmt":"2025-08-02T05:40:15","slug":"epstein-confidante-ghislaine-maxwell-transferred-to-lower-security-prison-in-texas-ghislaine-maxwell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/311151\/","title":{"rendered":"Epstein confidante Ghislaine Maxwell transferred to lower-security prison in Texas | Ghislaine Maxwell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/ghislaine-maxwell\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ghislaine Maxwell<\/a>, the associate of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/jeffrey-epstein\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jeffrey Epstein<\/a> who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex-trafficking crimes, has been transferred from a federal prison in Florida, to a lower-security facility in Texas, the US Bureau of Prisons said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">\u201cWe can confirm, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/ghislaine-maxwell\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ghislaine Maxwell<\/a> is in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) at the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Bryan in Bryan, Texas,\u201d a spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Maxwell\u2019s attorney, David Oscar Markus, also confirmed the transfer but declined further comment. FPC Bryan is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bop.gov\/locations\/institutions\/bry\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described<\/a> as a \u201cminimum security federal prison camp\u201d that houses 635 female inmates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">According to the Bureau of Prisons\u2019 inmate locator, the Texas facility is also home to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/elizabeth-holmes\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elizabeth Holmes<\/a>, the disgraced former CEO of the California-based blood-testing company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/theranos\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Theranos<\/a>, who is serving a lengthy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/article\/2024\/may\/07\/elizabeth-holmes-prison-sentence\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sentence<\/a> for fraud. Real Housewives of Salt Lake City TV star Jen Shah is also serving time there <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2022\/jul\/11\/jen-shah-real-housewives-salt-lake-city-guilty-fraud-charges\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">for fraud<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Maxwell\u2019s move from FCI Tallahassee, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bop.gov\/locations\/institutions\/tal\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">low-security prison<\/a>, to the federal prison camp in Bryan comes roughly a week after she was interviewed in Florida <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/jul\/25\/ghislaine-maxwell-justice-department-meeting\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over two days<\/a> about the Epstein case by the deputy US attorney general, Todd Blanche, who is also one of Donald Trump\u2019s former lawyers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Blanche had said that he wanted to speak with Maxwell \u2013 who was sentenced in 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2022\/jun\/28\/ghislaine-maxwell-sentencing-sex-trafficking-epstein\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">for sex trafficking and other related crimes<\/a> \u2013 to see if she might have \u201cinformation about anyone who has committed crimes against victims\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Details of that meeting have not been made public but Maxwell\u2019s lawyer described it as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/us-justice-department-official-meet-epstein-associate-maxwell-again-friday-2025-07-24\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cvery productive<\/a>\u201d, adding that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/jul\/25\/ghislaine-maxwell-justice-department-meeting\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maxwell answered<\/a> the questions \u201chonestly, truthfully, to the best of her ability\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">The interview took place amid growing political and public pressure on the Trump administration to release additional federal documents related to the Epstein case \u2013\u00a0a case which has, for years, been the subject of countless conspiracy theories.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Earlier in July, the justice department drew bipartisan criticism and backlash after announcing that it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/jul\/14\/jeffrey-epstein-trump-maga-turmoil\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">would not be releasing<\/a> any more documents from the investigation into the late Epstein, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/jul\/07\/jeffrey-epstein-suicide-justice-department-fbi-review-confirms\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">died in prison<\/a> in New York in 2019 while awaiting federal trial. This was despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/jul\/14\/jeffrey-epstein-trump-maga-turmoil\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">earlier pledges <\/a>to release more files, by the US president and the US attorney general, Pam Bondi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Last week, the House of Representatives committee on oversight and government reform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/jul\/22\/jeffrey-epstein-ghislaine-maxwell-subpoena\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">subpoenaed Maxwell<\/a> to testify via deposition later this month. In response, Maxwell\u2019s lawyer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/jul\/29\/ghislaine-maxwell-congress-testify-immunity\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sent a letter<\/a> to lawmakers this week stating that Maxwell was willing to testify but only if certain conditions are met, including being granted immunity.
