{"id":311727,"date":"2025-08-02T10:53:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-02T10:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/311727\/"},"modified":"2025-08-02T10:53:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-02T10:53:12","slug":"macron-scores-rare-win-on-palestinian-state-recognition-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/311727\/","title":{"rendered":"Macron scores rare win on Palestinian state recognition \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The shift in favor of recognition may be of little solace to those <a href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/en\/story\/2025\/07\/1165517\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on the brink of famine<\/a> in Gaza, but it\u2019s clear that Macron was at the forefront of Western Europe\u2019s push in favor of this historical demand of the Palestinian people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is definitively a French moment,\u201d said Hamza Hraoui, the director of the Paris-based global public affairs firm MGH Partners. \u201cIt\u2019s a point scored for French diplomacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The French president had for months been telegraphing that French recognition of a Palestinian state, the first of any G7 country, was coming. Macron <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/france-could-recognise-palestinian-state-june-emmanuel-macron\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said in April<\/a> that he would move toward recognizing Palestinian statehood but attached a string of ambitious conditions, including the necessity that several Middle Eastern nations needed to normalize their relations with Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Macron had hoped the venue for such joint recognition would be a United Nations conference organized by France and Saudi Arabia, but that idea collapsed with the end of a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.
