{"id":312394,"date":"2025-08-02T16:56:16","date_gmt":"2025-08-02T16:56:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/312394\/"},"modified":"2025-08-02T16:56:16","modified_gmt":"2025-08-02T16:56:16","slug":"bangladeshs-yunus-congratulates-his-trade-negotiators-on-securing-landmark-deal-with-u-s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/312394\/","title":{"rendered":"Bangladesh&#8217;s Yunus congratulates his trade negotiators on securing &#8216;landmark&#8217; deal with U.S."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1752989830_108_1x1_spacer.png\" alt=\"Muhammad Yunus, interim head of the Bangladesh government.\" title=\"Muhammad Yunus, interim head of the Bangladesh government.\" data-original=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1752989830_108_1x1_spacer.png\" class=\"lead-img\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"caption\">\n                    Muhammad Yunus, interim head of the Bangladesh government.<br \/>\n                                          | Photo Credit: Reuters\n                                      <\/p>\n<p>Interim government&#8217;s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Friday (August 1, 2025) congratulated his trade negotiators on securing a &#8220;landmark&#8221; deal with the U.S., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/international\/trump-reciprocal-tariff-full-list-of-targeted-countries-map\/article69407402.ece\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">which reduced its tariff rate on goods from Bangladesh<\/a> to 20%, a significant reduction from the previous 35%.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We proudly congratulate the Bangladesh tariff negotiators on securing a landmark trade deal with the United States, a decisive diplomatic victory,&#8221; Mr. Yunus said.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, he said by reducing the tariff to 20%, \u201c17 points lower than anticipated\u201d, Bangladeshi negotiators demonstrated \u201cremarkable strategic skill and unwavering commitment to safeguarding and advancing Bangladesh\u2019s economic interests\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The development came after a series of talks over the past month.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/international\/bangladesh-urges-trump-to-delay-tariff-citing-moves-to-boost-imports-from-us\/article69423304.ece\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Mr. Yunus said his negotiators worked \u201crelentlessly<\/a> since February and navigated successfully through a complex negotiating process involving tariff, non-tariff and national security matters\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe agreement they negotiated preserves our comparative advantage, enhances our access to the world&#8217;s largest consumer market and safeguards our core national interests,\u201d Mr. Yunus said.<\/p>\n<p>Bangladesh secured a 20% tariff rate, comparable to its key apparel-sector competitors such as Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Pakistan, and Indonesia, which received rates between 19% and 20%.
