\u201cI came close a couple of times to being in EastEnders \u2013 at one point they thought I might be viable for a Moon brother,\u201d reveals Walford newcomer Alex Walkinshaw<\/a>, who plays Vicki Fowler<\/a>\u2019s boyfriend Ross. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt never quite happened so I was possibly the only London actor who had never done an episode. I\u2019ve never ruled it out, though, so I\u2019m really glad to be here!\u201d<\/p>\n

Inside Soap<\/a> has never been more thrilled to receive a casting announcement than when we heard that Alex was joining EastEnders. We\u2019ve spoken with Alex a lot over the years, chatting to him about his roles as Smithy in The Bill<\/a>, Jez on Waterloo Road<\/a> and, of course, Fletch in Holby City<\/a>. <\/p>\n

So, when we were able to grab him for a chat during an EastEnders filming break, we jumped at the chance\u2026<\/p>\n

How would you sum up Ross\u2019 relationship with Vicki? Is it the real thing after they betrayed Spencer<\/a>?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Well, I think if you get together with someone in the same way Ross and Vicki did, you must really want it to risk so much. A few people have said they\u2019re a bit like Den and Angie<\/a> in the way they can row one minute and the next be cuddling on the sofa. With Vicki being Den\u2019s daughter, I guess that makes me Angie [laughs]!<\/p>\n

How is Ross similar or different to previous characters you have played?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I think there are lots of similarities with all of them, but it\u2019s still early days for Ross. He\u2019s very family-orientated, so in that sense he\u2019s similar to Fletch. <\/p>\n

Ross also has a decent backbone and isn\u2019t afraid to stand up for himself, which is a Smithy trait \u2013 back in the days when I had much more hair! I think there\u2019s lots of scope with Ross to be doing all sorts \u2013 good, bad and indifferent. <\/p>\n

He seems like a gent, but he can be manipulative. So, which is the real Ross? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Both! As a proud man looking after the woman he loves, he knows he\u2019s not flavour of the month and he understands. However, we know that he has an ulterior motive<\/a>. He\u2019s been on the hunt for some cash and is a bit desperate, so he\u2019s not backwards in coming forwards. <\/p>\n

You\u2019ve always played nice characters, so would you like to play a bad boy?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I wouldn\u2019t say no! Whatever EastEnders throws at me, I will absolutely give it 100 per cent, don\u2019t worry about that!<\/p>\n
