{"id":312678,"date":"2025-08-02T19:29:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-02T19:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/312678\/"},"modified":"2025-08-02T19:29:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-02T19:29:10","slug":"dua-lipa-feeling-grateful-after-kosovan-president-grants-her-citizenship-dua-lipa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/312678\/","title":{"rendered":"Dua Lipa \u2018feeling grateful\u2019 after Kosovan president grants her citizenship | Dua Lipa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Singer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/dua-lipa\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dua Lipa<\/a> has said she is \u201cfeeling grateful\u201d after being awarded citizenship of Kosovo by the country\u2019s president.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">The 29-year-old was born in London to Kosovan-Albanian parents, Anesa and Dukagjin Lipa, and moved to the country\u2019s capital of Pristina aged 11, when her family returned after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/kosovo\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kosovo<\/a> gained its independence in 2008, before moving back to London aged 15.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">In a post on Instagram, Lipa said: \u201cFeeling so grateful to have been awarded my Kosovan citizenship by our president vjosaosmani.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Kosovo\u2019s president, Vjosa Osmani, posted a picture of herself presenting a certificate of citizenship to the Houdini singer with a caption saying \u201cwelcome home Dua\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">She added: \u201cSpecial honour that today, by presidential decree, to grant citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo to Dua Lipa, one of the most important cultural and artistic personalities in the history of our country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">\u201cDua and Kosovo have always been inseparable. She has been and continues to be one of the most powerful voices on the world\u2019s biggest stages, making history with her achievements and becoming an inspiration to millions of people around the globe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">\u201cOur gratitude is endless for all that Dua has done and continues to do for Kosovo, for our youth, for our art and for the international image of our country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">\u201cDua, Kosovo is always proud of you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">At her initiation ceremony, Lipa was welcomed by a group of children dressed in white singing her 2020 UK hit single Levitating.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">It comes after the singer appeared at the country\u2019s Sunny Hill festival, which she created in 2018, on Friday, where she performed the song Era with her father in Albanian.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">She said of the performance in a post on X: \u201cSharing this night with you all, in the city that shaped me, surrounded by so much energy, joy, and pride \u2026 it\u2019s hard to put into words what it means.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">\u201cPerforming for you, and sharing the stage with my dad dukagjinlipa was a moment I\u2019ll never forget.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">\u201cI feel so incredibly lucky and grateful, and we still have two more nights to celebrate together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">In November 2022, the singer was granted Albanian citizenship by its president Bajram Begaj.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Since beginning her career in 2013, Lipa has had four UK No 1 singles and two UK No 1 albums.
