Birmingham City made sure to remind Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis of his recent comments after beating his side in pre-season.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Blues<\/a> secured an impressive 1-0 against their Premier League opponents at St Andrews, with Jay Stansfield scoring the only goal of the Trevor Francis Memorial Match.<\/p>\n

This was Forest<\/a>‘s fifth game of pre-season, and they are still yet to win, having drawn three times and lost twice.<\/p>\n

And Birmingham were quick to laud the latest result over their Midlands rivals at full time.<\/p>\n

In a now-deleted post, Birmingham’s social media team wrote after the match: “Victory over Mr Marinakis’ Nottingham Forest.”<\/p>\n

This was in reference to the interview with Morgan Gibbs-White and Marinakis after the England international signed his new contract at the City Ground<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gibbs-White<\/a> recently penned a new three-year deal at the club, bringing to an end weeks of speculation over his future.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old looked to be heading to Tottenham earlier this month after the north London outfit thought they had\u00a0activated his \u00a360million release clause<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A move looked to be all-but sealed, only for the deal to be put on hold after Forest\u00a0lodged a legal complaint<\/a>\u00a0after believing the approach from Spurs was illegal.<\/p>\n

While Thomas Frank’s side remained hopeful the transfer could be rescued, Gibbs-White instead pledged his future to the Reds.<\/p>\n

Upon signing a deal to keep him at the club until 2028, the midfielder then took part in an interview alongside Marinakis<\/a>. <\/p>\n

With the pair stood pitchside, Gibbs-White made several references to ‘Mr Marinakis’, as he\u00a0spoke of his\u00a0delight at his new deal.<\/p>\n

He said: “I’m delighted, so thank you to Mr Marinakis, for believing in me.<\/p>\n

“I feel like we’ve been on a roller coaster of a journey, but I’ve felt the love instantly from the very first moment I stepped through the doors.”<\/p>\n

He added to the club’s website: “I\u2019ve felt at home at Forest from the moment I arrived.<\/p>\n

“The support from the fans, my teammates, and everyone around the club has been unbelievable.<\/p>\n

“I believe in what we’re building here \u2013 and with the backing of Mr Marinakis and the enormous ambition he has, I want to be part of making something special.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m excited for what\u2019s to come.”<\/p>\n

For his part, Marinakis made sure to aim a dig at Spurs, as he said at the end of the interview: \u201cAt the end of the day, we always win.”<\/p>\n

But it was Birmingham who had the last laugh on Saturday, as they added to Forest’s pre-season woes.<\/p>\n

Gibbs-White led out the Reds at St Andrews, who fell to the second defeat of their pre-season campaign.<\/p>\n

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have scored just once so far in pre-season, doing so in a 3-1 defeat to Fulham in July.<\/p>\n
