A number of roads were closed as officers dealt with the incident in OldhamThe man on the roofs on Countill Road on Saturday evening<\/p>\n

A man has been arrested after scaling the roofs of a row of houses for several hours in Oldham<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The man climbed onto the roofs of a row of terraces on Countill Road, in the Moorside area of the town, at around 4pm.<\/p>\n

Police attended, and the road and a number of surrounding streets were shut off whilst officers dealt with the incident.<\/p>\n

According to an eyewitness, the man appeared ‘manic’ as he paced up and down the roofs pulling off roof tiles and dropping them.<\/p>\n

Officers on the ground at one point brought riot shields, the witness said.<\/p>\n

Tiles were ripped off and thrown a witness said<\/p>\n

“It was like something you would see at a prison riot or something” they said. “At points he looked really manic, looking left and right as he walked up and down.<\/p>\n

“Other times he was just sat down, looking like he was feeling sorry for himself.”<\/p>\n

Greater Manchester Police<\/a> (GMP) confirmed he was brought down at around 7pm and was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.<\/p>\n
