Following Bayern Munich<\/a>\u2019s 2-1 win over Lyon in preseason, Joshua Kimmich entertained rumours of him potentially making a return to midfield for the German national team at the upcoming FIFA World Cup.<\/p>\n

This comes after head coach Julian Nagelsmann\u2019s statement earlier this week<\/a>, saying that Kimmich will likely make a return to midfield because it’s his usual position at the club level, adding that with the short amount of time until the World Cup, they simply cannot \u201cgamble too much\u201d with the setup.<\/p>\n

Speaking post-game, Kimmich announced that he was all on board. <\/p>\n

\u201cJulian knows that if he needs me as a right-back, I will play on the right. If in midfield, I\u2019ll play in midfield. The coach makes the decision. I play where he tells me to play,\u201d Kimmich stated in remarks captured via @iMiaSanMia<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While it is a diplomatic statement, Kimmich has made it clear in the past that he prefers to play as a defensive midfielder. It appears that Nagelsmann will respect his wishes, and Kimmich will run the game for Die Mannschaft in the approaching World Cup. Whether or not he will be better there than than in his role on the right flank remains to be seen. <\/p>\n
