It might be the people, the food, the nonsense, or the fact that you can\u2019t walk into a shop without bumping into someone who knows your entire family tree. You might move away for uni, work, or just for a change of scenery, but give it a week and you\u2019ll be dreaming about jambons and wondering why nobody where you are says \u201cdead on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It\u2019s only when you leave that you realise just how many wee things make <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.belfastlive.co.uk\/all-about\/northern-ireland\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Northern Ireland<\/a> feel like home. Things you never gave a second thought to at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">So wherever you are in the world, here are some things you\u2019ll definitely miss about the motherland<\/p>\n<p>The hot food deli in your local shop<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Where else can you get a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.belfastlive.co.uk\/all-about\/food-and-drink\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">jambon<\/a>, a sausage bap, and a carton of wedges covered in curry? It isn&#8217;t until you leave NI that you realise how much you appreciated these wee gems (especially when hungover!)<\/p>\n<p>Fifteens<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The undisputed king of traybakes. Outside of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.belfastlive.co.uk\/all-about\/northern-ireland\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Northern Ireland<\/a>, they would look at you like you had two heads if you asked for a fifteen. These wee yokes are delicious, though!<\/p>\n<p>An Ulster Fry done right<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">We\u2019re talking soda farl, potato bread, bacon, sausage, and a fried egg. If there&#8217;s no soda farl, it&#8217;s not a fry. End of!<\/p>\n<p>Being able to ask for a poke without getting done for harassment<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In Northern Ireland, a poke is ice cream, and you can ask for one without needing HR involved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cTwo pokes and a flake\u201d is entirely wholesome here and shouldn&#8217;t land you with a court summons.<\/p>\n<p>Tayto Cheese and Onion<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">From <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.belfastlive.co.uk\/all-about\/co-armagh\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Tandragee Castle<\/a>, no less. That yellow packet is a sacred relic. Try finding it in England, you\u2019ll end up with Walkers and shame.<\/p>\n<p>Saying \u201cdead on\u201d and it means 57 different things<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It truly is a Swiss Army knife of a phrase. &#8220;Dead on&#8221; can mean fine, not fine, definitely raging, possibly sarcastic, or just the end of a conversation.<\/p>\n<p>Chippies that sell more than just fish and chips<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Chips, gravy, curry, battered sausages, pasties, burgers, kebabs, and pizzas. Try finding a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.belfastlive.co.uk\/all-about\/food-and-drink\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">fish and chip <\/a>shop elsewhere that sells a range like this!<\/p>\n<p>Trips to Barry\u2019s (Sorry, Curry\u2019s)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">We\u2019ll say it\u2019s called Curry\u2019s now, but in our hearts, it\u2019s still <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.belfastlive.co.uk\/all-about\/portrush\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Barry\u2019s<\/a>. It always will be.<\/p>\n<p>Being able to buy decent milk and butter<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">None of this watery nonsense or overpriced, organic, unsalted despair. Our local dairy products are the best.<\/p>\n<p>Nambarrie and Punjana Tea<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If you use anything other than these two tea brands, we have serious questions!
