{"id":313417,"date":"2025-08-03T02:27:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-03T02:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/313417\/"},"modified":"2025-08-03T02:27:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T02:27:12","slug":"fernando-alonso-admits-aston-martin-need-to-understand-turnaround-after-impressive-qualifying-in-hungary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/313417\/","title":{"rendered":"Fernando Alonso admits Aston Martin \u2018need to understand\u2019 turnaround after impressive Qualifying in Hungary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">Fernando Alonso conceded that Aston Martin still need to understand the reasons behind their impressive turnaround in Qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix, with the Spaniard and team mate Lance Stroll claiming fifth and sixth on the grid just days after ending up at the very back in Spa-Francorchamps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">In an eventful weekend so far for the squad \u2013 which saw <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/drivers\/fernando-alonso\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alonso<\/a> sit out FP1 <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/latest\/article\/alonso-to-miss-first-practice-in-hungary-as-he-nurses-muscular-injury.4Uhg07nNYf0rVOJSGvOQJ3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">due to a muscular injury in his back<\/a> \u2013 there were positive signs during Friday\u2019s practice sessions, Alonso having ended FP2 in P5 with <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/drivers\/lance-stroll\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stroll<\/a> just ahead in P4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">This run of form continued into Saturday&#8217;s <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/latest\/article\/leclerc-edges-out-piastri-and-norris-for-shock-pole-position-in-hungary.2Jfzs5jky9IUm16RxCftkn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Qualifying<\/a>, leading Alonso to admit that there are still some lessons to be learned in how the team\u2019s fortunes have changed so quickly from last weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">Asked during a chat with Sky Sports F1 where his performance had come from, the two-time World Champion joked: \u201cFrom the driver, obviously! No, the car was much better this weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cWe need to understand why because six days ago in Quali in Spa we were 19th and 20th, and now we are fifth and sixth. The car didn\u2019t change much for anybody and it seemed that this layout and these characteristics are better for our package, so we need to maximise these kinds of weekends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">Pushed on whether it may be the result of <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/teams\/aston-martin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aston Martin<\/a>\u2019s continued upgrades push \u2013 and if this can help to give them further direction going forwards \u2013 Alonso responded: \u201cAbsolutely. This is down to the team and the effort that everyone is putting back at Silverstone and here on the race weekends.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cThe front wing, which is maybe the first race that we\u2019ve properly used it, is giving us that extra load in the corners, and in Hungary obviously it\u2019s very important. I think we are trying to understand also the tools we have in the factory, wind tunnel, CFD, all the new people that joined the team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cI think it\u2019s the third time, [with the] Imola package and the floor in Silverstone and the front wing now \u2013 all three upgrades delivered exactly what we were expecting, so this is very encouraging for next year\u2019s project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">After quipping that \u201cthe car is better than my back, but I will do my best tomorrow\u201d, Alonso said of his goals for Sunday in a separate interview with F1 TV: \u201cP5 is a great place, for sure, and tomorrow I don\u2019t know what can be possible but we will try to consolidate these positions. It would be huge for the team if we can finish in the starting positions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">The change from last weekend\u2019s showing also came as a pleasant surprise for Stroll, who will line up in sixth place for Sunday\u2019s race at the <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/racing\/2025\/hungary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hungaroring<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cIt was really good,\u201d Stroll told Sky Sports F1 of his Qualifying performance in Budapest. \u201cAll week it\u2019s been good, the car\u2019s been in the window since the first lap of FP1, and again in Qualifying really nice to drive. A good turnaround after last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cI think [it\u2019s down to] the nature of the track.
