{"id":313531,"date":"2025-08-03T03:34:15","date_gmt":"2025-08-03T03:34:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/313531\/"},"modified":"2025-08-03T03:34:15","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T03:34:15","slug":"french-rider-pauline-ferrand-prevot-puts-a-gap-on-australias-sarah-gigante-ahead-of-final-stage-of-tour-de-france-femmes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/313531\/","title":{"rendered":"French rider Pauline Ferrand-Pr\u00e9v\u00f4t puts a gap on Australia&#8217;s Sarah Gigante ahead of final stage of Tour de France Femmes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">French rider Pauline Ferrand-Pr\u00e9v\u00f4t took a commanding lead at the Tour de France Femmes after launching a solo attack on the final climb of Saturday&#8217;s penultimate stage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">She is making her Tour debut at 33 years old and leads Australian rider Sarah Gigante by 2 minutes, 37 seconds and 2023 champion Demi Vollering of the Netherlands by 3:18 heading into tonight&#8217;s (AEST) last stage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Last year&#8217;s event had the smallest winning margin in the history of the women&#8217;s and men&#8217;s races, but Ferrand-Pr\u00e9v\u00f4t looks like winning far more comfortably, barring mishap.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">She won the mountain bike gold medal at last year&#8217;s Paris Olympics and the Paris-Roubaix classic in April.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-07-30\/sarah-gigante-tour-de-france-femmes-mountains\/105589372\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">As the Tour de France Femmes road goes up, Sarah Gigante rises to the top<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">As the Tour de France Femmes heads into the mountains for the first time on stage five, Australian climber Sarah Gigante may just be getting started.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Overnight, she trailed Mauritian rider Kim Le Court by 26 seconds heading into stage eight from Chamb\u00e9ry to Saint-Fran\u00e7ois-Longchamp, which took the riders on a 112 kilometre trek into the mountains.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">It featured an early climb of 13km up Col de Plainpalais before finishing with a tortuous ascent of 18.6km to Col de Madeleine, one of the most famed climbs in cycling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Ferrand-Pr\u00e9v\u00f4t made a move on her main rivals about 9km from the top, pulling away to chase after Niamh Fisher-Black and Yara Kastelijn ahead of her.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">She soon caught them and then rode unchallenged to clinch the stage win.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Gigante crossed the line 1:45 behind her, while Fisher-Black rolled in 2:15 behind in third spot.
