{"id":313688,"date":"2025-08-03T05:04:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-03T05:04:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/313688\/"},"modified":"2025-08-03T05:04:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T05:04:10","slug":"frances-innovative-fixed-term-employment-contracts-a-success-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/313688\/","title":{"rendered":"France&#8217;s Innovative Fixed-Term Employment Contracts: A Success Story"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    Employment ministry says innovative employment contracts extend work duration\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n        CDD employment contracts have been trialled since 2018<br \/>\n        nito\/Shutterstock\n    <\/p>\n<p>An experiment with a new form of fixed-term employment contract, which allows someone hired on a CDD (contrat \u00e0 dur\u00e9e d\u00e9termin\u00e9e) to replace several people, rather than just one, has been judged a success by France\u2019s employment ministry.<\/p>\n<p>French salaried workers have two main forms of contract \u2013 the contrat \u00e0 dur\u00e9e ind\u00e9termin\u00e9e (CDI, promising work until retirement) or a contrat \u00e0 dur\u00e9e d\u00e9termin\u00e9e (CDD, for a fixed period and for a specific purpose, such as covering maternity leave).<\/p>\n<p>CDIs generally come with more benefits, especially when it comes to securing loans, and day-to-day perks such as lunch vouchers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-weight-bold m-font-weight-bold\" data-lab-font_weight=\"font-weight-bold\">Read more:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.connexionfrance.com\/news\/how-unemployment-benefit-rules-are-changing-in-france-from-april-1-2025\/710112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How unemployment benefit rules are changing in France from April 1, 2025<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>CDD contract rules<\/p>\n<p>CDDs have strict rules on how they can be renewed and the number of times.<\/p>\n<p>Allowing a worker on a CDD contract to replace more than one person has been trialled in France since 2018.<\/p>\n<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.connexionfrance.com\/collections\/help-guides\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/guides bleu.png\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A study by the ministry found that within the sectors concerned (industrial and service), 17.6% of CDDs were in the new format and allowed employees to work for an average of 13 days longer than they could before.<\/p>\n<p>Medical and care sectors used the new contracts the most, responsible for two-thirds of them.<\/p>\n<p>In a report, ministry officials said the results were \u201cencouraging\u201d and recommended the experiment be continued.<\/p>\n<p>However, many companies trying to implement the new contracts reported difficulties.
