North Coast 500, Scotland<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Covering over 500 miles, the North Coast 500 is a circular route around the northern Highlands that starts and finishes in Inverness. Travellers are encouraged to spend several days exploring the region\u2019s remote beauty, from sampling fresh local produce and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/whisky\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"whiskyLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">whisky<\/a> to spotting wildlife on a sea safari.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Doherty described the route as \u201ctruly unique and life-changing,\u201d with the trail weaving through Wester Ross, Caithness, Sutherland and the Black Isle before returning to Inverness.<\/p>\n<p>2. Cheddar Gorge, Somerset<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">One of the UK\u2019s most visually striking short drives, Cheddar Gorge cuts through Britain\u2019s largest gorge, with limestone cliffs reaching 137 metres on either side of the road. The surrounding Mendip Hills provide even more quiet countryside views.<\/p>\n<p>Kirkstone Pass, Lake District<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">For those craving mountain views, the Lake District\u2019s Kirkstone Pass is the highest road in the region open to traffic. The nearby Kirkstone Pass Inn, dating back to the 15th century, is a welcome stop for refreshments.<\/p>\n<p>Atlantic Highway, Cornwall and Devon<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Stretching from Barnstaple to Newquay, the Atlantic Highway follows the A39 along the north coast of Cornwall into Devon. The road delivers a mix of sea views, countryside, and picturesque towns like Padstow and Bude.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Travellers will find ample opportunities to pause for coastal walks or a classic Cornish ice cream.
