Police have issued a witness appeal after an arson incident and a ‘tragic’ sudden death on Saturday afternoon, August 2.<\/p>\n
Just before 2.05pm on Saturday, police received a report from our colleagues in the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service<\/a> that a vehicle \u2013 a silver Mitsubishi Lancer GS2 – was on fire in the Rylagh Road area of Omagh<\/a>.<\/p>\n As fire officers extinguished the blaze they discovered that, tragically, a person had died as a result of the fire in the Co Tyrone<\/a> town.<\/p>\n READ MORE: PSNI officer injured after ‘being dragged for several metres by vehicle’ in Kilkeel<\/a>READ MORE: Two cars ‘completely burnt out’ and house damaged in Millisle arson attack<\/a><\/p>\n A PSNI<\/a> spokesperson said: \u201cWe are treating this fire as arson, and our enquiries as to how the person came to be beside the vehicle are ongoing.\u201cWe would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area between midday and 2.15pm yesterday, who may have noticed anything suspicious, to contact us.<\/p>\n \u201cWe would be particularly keen to hear from anyone who had dashcam or other footage and would also like to hear from anyone who may have noticed this particular vehicle. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the person who has so tragically lost their life.\u201d<\/p>\n He added: \u201cIt is heartbreaking that someone has died in such harrowing circumstances. People in the area are understandably anxious and looking for answers. It is critical that anyone with information \u2013 no matter how small \u2013 reports it to the PSNI. The victim\u2019s family deserves truth and justice.
