{"id":314576,"date":"2025-08-03T13:12:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-03T13:12:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/314576\/"},"modified":"2025-08-03T13:12:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T13:12:11","slug":"endangered-crayfish-returning-to-nottinghamshire-waterways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/314576\/","title":{"rendered":"Endangered crayfish returning to Nottinghamshire waterways"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Environment Agency said it has been working with Natural England to secure the white-clawed crayfish&#8217;s future across the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In Nottinghamshire, a partnership to protect the species has been formed among various groups.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This has included the Nottinghamshire Biodiversity Action Group, White Post Farm, and other environmental groups from further afield.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Staff and volunteers are creating new safe havens, known as &#8220;ark sites&#8221;, for the crayfish to relocate to, and moving numbers of them that are under threat to these protected sites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Erin McDaid, from the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, said losing the native species would be &#8220;heart-breaking&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He added: &#8220;Our waterways wouldn&#8217;t be the same if they went extinct as they keep the ecosystems in our rivers healthy.
