I can\u2019t figure out if it\u2019s genius or useless, but as a vertical mouse fan, I\u2019d like to at least try it.<\/li>\n<li class=\"_11h7yix1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/timeflies.buzz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Time Flies<\/strong><\/a><strong>:<\/strong> In this short game, you play as a fly trying to complete your bucket list before you die in a matter of seconds. It\u2019s sillier than I\u2019m making it sound, but by the end, I was quite moved. One of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/games-review\/707596\/time-flies-review-pc-nintendo-switch-playstation-panic-playables\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">my favorite games of the year<\/a>. <\/li>\n<li class=\"_11h7yix1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dotemu.com\/games\/ninja-gaiden-ragebound\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound<\/strong><\/a><strong>:<\/strong> Dotemu\u2019s reimagining of classic side-scrolling Ninja Gaiden games is just awesome: the pixel art graphics are superb, the levels are creative and filled with secrets, and the combat is satisfyingly tough. I\u2019ll have a review going up in a couple weeks, but I can highly recommend this right now.<\/li>\n<li class=\"_11h7yix1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.8bitdo.com\/64-controller\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller<\/strong><\/a><strong>:<\/strong> While you wait for Analogue to finally ship the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.analogue.co\/3d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Analogue 3D<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 the company\u2019s 4K Nintendo 64 \u2014 you can now buy 8BitDo\u2019s companion controller that puts N64 buttons in a more modern controller shape and with Hall effect joysticks and triggers. The controller is compatible with the Switch 2, too.<\/li>\n<li class=\"_11h7yix1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ollama.com\/blog\/new-app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Ollama app<\/strong><\/a><strong>: <\/strong>This desktop app for macOS and Windows lets you easily run a bunch of different AI models locally on your computer \u2014 no command line required. There\u2019s one for each Eeveelution plus Eevee, so I\u2019ve been swapping them out based on the season. It\u2019s Vaporeon\u2019s turn!<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\"><strong>The apps: <\/strong>I\u2019m big on folders, but there are a few apps I need out and easy to access \u2014 mainly the <strong>Clock<\/strong> app, because I am very paranoid about accidentally not setting an alarm and missing work. I also always have the <strong>NYT Games<\/strong> app and <strong>Threes<\/strong> there, plus games on rotation based on what I\u2019m playing lately. Right now that\u2019s mostly <strong>Umamusume<\/strong>, which literally means \u201chorse girls,\u201d and it\u2019s all about \u2014 you guessed it \u2014 training horse girls to win races. It\u2019s based on the anime, which I haven\u2019t seen, but it\u2019s a good raising game!<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">I also asked Kallie to share a few things she\u2019s into right now. Here\u2019s what she said:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"duet--article--unordered-list _1ymtmqpi _11h7yix0 _1xwtict1\">\n<li class=\"_11h7yix1\">Besides Umamusume\u2026 I\u2019m really into crosswords and word games, as you can probably tell from the NYT Games app getting top billing on my homescreen, and I\u2019ve been enjoying <strong>Quartiles<\/strong><strong> via Apple News Plus<\/strong>. It gives you a grid of 20 segments of words, two to four letters each, and you have to make as many words as you can with them. It\u2019s a different kind of puzzle than anything from The New York Times, and I\u2019m always so satisfied when I manage to find all the words.<\/li>\n<li class=\"_11h7yix1\">I follow competitive <strong>Pok\u00e9mon<\/strong>, and the World Championships are coming up in mid-August, so I\u2019ve been catching up on the current meta. I\u2019ll watch videos from players\/creators like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@CybertronVGC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aaron Zheng<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCJbbTSmMzaDhJg2uz6elyPA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Baek<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@WolfeyVGC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wolfe Glick<\/a> to learn and get up to speed. I do play, but not well or often enough to really compete \u2014 it feels weird to say that I play competitive Pok\u00e9mon casually, but that\u2019s the best way to describe it! At the highest level, it\u2019s an incredibly difficult and strategic game. It has both a high barrier to entry (though that\u2019s been improving in newer games!) and a ridiculously high skill ceiling.<\/li>\n<li class=\"_11h7yix1\">I have a long list of games I really want to play (<strong>Death Stranding 2: On the Beach<\/strong>, <strong>The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy<\/strong>, more <strong>Donkey Kong Bananza<\/strong>), but of course I\u2019ve done none of that. Instead I\u2019ve been playing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dreadxp.com\/the-mortuary-assistant-press-kit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Mortuary Assistant<\/strong><\/a> with my friend over Discord \u2014 it\u2019s technically single-player, but we collaborate \u2014 because playing a horror game with another person is always a good time. Jury\u2019s still out on the game itself, since in between scares you kinda have to do the same embalming tasks over and over, but we\u2019re having fun so far!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Here\u2019s what the Installer community is into this week. I\u2019ve been using it for the last couple of weeks and it\u2019s a great alternative and available cross-platform, too. Importing my Pocket history was seamless and easy. The two people running it have put hundreds of gaming blogs into one place, and they run <a href=\"https:\/\/reconnectrecap.substack.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>a Substack newsletter<\/strong><\/a> every week that does a roundup, like Installer, of some of the best articles from that week. Makes finding good articles and new bloggers really easy.\u201d \u2013 Christian<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">\u201cI\u2019ve been reading <a href=\"https:\/\/www.penguinrandomhouse.com\/books\/779912\/the-convenience-store-by-the-sea-by-sonoko-machida\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Convenience Store by the Sea<\/strong><\/a>. It follows the popular Japanese literature \u2018a different chapter focusing on one person and their relationship with food\u2019 trend but if anyone has been to Japan and been charmed by the convenience stores it\u2019s worth checking out.\u201d \u2013 ashleytwo<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">\u201cLately, I\u2019ve been playing a lot of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.descendersgame.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Descenders<\/strong><\/a>, an indie mountain biking game. Everything about it feels super satisfying, whether I\u2019m flying down a hill at 40 MPH or hitting flips and tricks off a huge jump. There\u2019s a huge feeling of speed, but you still feel pretty vulnerable \u2014 hit a rock or land too hard, and you\u2019ll wipe out. I type using the <a href=\"https:\/\/colemak.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Colemak<\/strong><\/a> layout. I switched to it years ago when I was dealing with some issues with my wrists and was looking for a more ergonomic layout. The first few weeks of learning it were tough, but now, it\u2019s just how I type \u2014 even though my wrists are mostly better now (which I attribute more to things like my ergonomic keyboard and my standing desk than Colemak). Now, if I try to go back to QWERTY on a computer keyboard, I really have to think about it, but oddly, I have no issues typing with QWERTY on my phone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Anyway, I wanted to do an informal poll of Installer readers: have you tried a non-QWERTY keyboard layout, why did you do so, and have you stuck with it? No need to share your typing speeds or anything. I just want to know a little more about how and why people type.
