Despite extensive searches and public appeals by Richard&#8217;s family and police, no-one has seen or heard from him.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_Jean-Mahon.png\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Jean Mahon<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A heartbroken sister has spoken of the extraordinary steps she\u2019s taken in a decades-long search for her brother, who <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/missing-people\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"vanishedLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">vanished<\/a> without a trace nearly 25 years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Jean Mahon last saw her brother Richard Doolan on March 24, 2001, in Croy, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/glasgow\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"GlasgowLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Glasgow<\/a>. Now living in Dublin, she has never given up hope that he may still be alive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Richard was officially reported missing when the family grew concerned after his mother visited his flat and found his wallet, driving licence and personal belongings still inside. That gut feeling quickly turned into a nightmare. Despite extensive searches, there has never been any sign of him, reports the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/news\/irish-news\/heartbroken-sister-man-missing-24-35665319?fbclid=IwY2xjawL8QBdleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHvR_6ysqgzDTvqPnbW_J5rhn-X1YyZddNyIdZ17WRX8vsp5c1mQR64cR-RjT_aem_fT6AtGCf7oOIDR2XeIngkQ\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Irish Mirror.Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Irish Mirror.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Speaking on Venetia Quick\u2019s podcast The Grief Pod, Jean opened up about the emotional toll of the uncertainty that has haunted her family for nearly a quarter of a century.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWhen someone asks and you say my brother is a missing person, he\u2019s missing for 24 years, the first reaction from them is to say, \u2018I\u2019m so sorry\u2019,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cBut I actually don\u2019t feel as if I have the right to grieve because I haven\u2019t lost him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cYou could ask me today and I would be pretty confident that Richard has passed. But yesterday Richard moved to London and he has a wife and a couple of kids and he\u2019s happy there.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_richard-doolan.png\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Richard Doolan(Image: Police Scotland)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cAnd that\u2019s the difference with this type of loss because you don\u2019t know. We don\u2019t have any way to grieve, there\u2019s nowhere for us to go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In her desperate search for answers, Jean once went as far as taking a job within the Irish Government\u2019s Department of Social Protection, hoping to find clues in Richard\u2019s welfare records. I was hoping maybe he had moved away and claimed somewhere else and there would be a forwarding address.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Jean described the last 24 years as \u201can endless cycle of grief with a bit of hope thrown in now and again\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Even now, she admits to scanning faces in every crowd, hoping to catch a glimpse of her brother.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt happens every day. We went to Croke Park there, 83,000 people, and 90% of the time you are looking at people\u2014the way they walk, the way they turn their head, their height, their stature\u2014just for the slightest chance maybe you could see him,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cI have jumped and thought, \u2018Oh my God, that\u2019s Richard\u2019\u2014then it\u2019s not. And they are the ones that hurt the most.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Richard Doolan remains listed as a missing person.
