{"id":315047,"date":"2025-08-03T17:04:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-03T17:04:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/315047\/"},"modified":"2025-08-03T17:04:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T17:04:11","slug":"germany-says-israeli-blockade-causing-famine-in-gaza-middle-east-monitor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/315047\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany says Israeli blockade causing famine in Gaza \u2013 Middle East Monitor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said Sunday that Israel\u2019s de facto blockade of Gaza is causing famine and leading to civilian deaths, Anadolu reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have long observed that Israel\u2019s de facto blockade of the Gaza Strip is causing famine, leading to people dying, suffering, and being left without water,\u201d Wadephul told German broadcaster Deutschlandfunk following his recent visit to Israel and Palestine.<\/p>\n<p>Wadephul said he delivered a clear message during meetings with Israeli officials that the humanitarian situation in Gaza must \u201cfundamentally change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope that message has been heard. I have the impression that it has,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The minister warned that Israel risked isolating itself amid growing global concern over its conduct in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGermany must not allow that to happen. We must also help Israel avoid falling into such a situation,\u201d he said, noting that Berlin has continued to advise and support Israel \u201cthrough this difficult decision-making process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.middleeastmonitor.com\/20250801-germany-warns-israel-of-diplomatic-isolation-over-gaza-humanitarian-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Germany warns Israel of \u201cdiplomatic isolation\u201d over Gaza humanitarian crisis<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wadephul also acknowledged that Germany remains one of the few countries not to recognize Palestine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is something we must also acknowledge,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He cautioned that Gaza\u2019s humanitarian crisis is pushing more countries to unilaterally recognize Palestine while \u201cdisregarding Israel\u2019s interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis concerns us \u2014 and it should also concern Israel. We are trying to offer advice, open their eyes, and work so that Israel is in a better position than it has been so far,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Wadephul called for the return of international aid groups to Gaza, including the United Nations, UN agencies, the International Red Cross, and religious charities, saying: \u201cIf granted access, these organizations could do their jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked when such access should begin, he replied: \u201cThis could start tomorrow \u2014 and, in fact, it\u2019s already improving.
