Road closures are planned starting from August 9<\/p>\n

A warning has been issued to drivers travelling to Liverpool John Lennon Airport<\/a> next weekend. The airport posted on social media weekend road closures and “lengthy diversions” are planned to start on Saturday, August 9<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Liverpool John Lennon Airport said the closures are likely to cause significant delays for many passengers travelling to the Speke<\/a> airport. Essential carriageway maintenance works are due to take place on the A561 and A562 roads in South Liverpool, with weekend road closures in place on August 9 and 10 and August 16 and 17.<\/p>\n

A signposted diversion will be in place, however, the spokesperson added this is around 13 miles and “could lengthen journey times significantly”. They warned anyone travelling to the airport over these weekends is advised to allow plenty of additional time to travel to the airport<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a statement posted on X, the airport added: “Please note that these works are highly weather<\/a> dependent and dates and times are therefore subject to change at short notice. For more detailed information and the latest updates regarding these works please refer to the Knowsley<\/a> Council website.”<\/p>\n

Four months of roadworks are also set to take place on one of Merseyside’s busiest roads. As part of a multi-million pound upgrade to the region’s electricity network, parts of the East Lancs Road will be cut off in just over two weeks.<\/p>\n

Construction is scheduled to also start on August 9 along the eastbound side of the East Lancashire Road, between the substation near South Boundary Road and the M57 Junction 5 exit slip road. Work is due to continue until 8 December 2025. Knowsley<\/a> Council advised that one lane of the eastbound carriageway will be closed for safety reasons and work will be undertaken between the hours of 7am-5pm, seven days a week.<\/p>\n

The upgrade to Merseyside’s electricity network is being undertaken by SP Energy Networks (SPEN) which is investing \u00a340m to upgrade a key cable between Kirkby<\/a> and Bootle<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The cable was originally fitted during the 1960s, but with increasing demand for electric cars and greener heating, Knowsley Council<\/a> said the upgrades are ‘essential’ for keep the electricity supply ‘future ready’.<\/p>\n

Workers will be digging sections of the road to replace the old cables, connecting new ones to various points along the network. They will also be digging and installing new cable ducts at a rate of around 25 to 40 metres a day, with clear signage in place along the route.<\/p>\n

The local authority motorists that some disruption will be inevitable but has pledged to keep inconvenience to a minimum during the construction process. It also confirmed that people will still have full access to homes and businesses and electricity supply will be unaffected.<\/p>\n
