Police Scotland have issued advice<\/a> to Edinburgh residents ahead of next week’s amber weather warning.<\/p>\n

With Storm Floris set to hit the capital on Monday, August 4, the authorities have told road users in particular to “take extra caution” and “plan ahead”.<\/p>\n

The amber warning<\/a> will be in place from 10am to 10pm on Monday while the yellow warning will remain in place until 11.59pm.<\/p>\n

Gusts<\/a> of 50 to 70 mph are expected for many parts, and are likely to reach 80 to 90 mph on some exposed coasts, hills and bridges.<\/p>\n

Sharing the warning on social media, Police Scotland wrote: “There is a high risk of disruption and travel conditions may be hazardous. Extra caution should be taken by all road users.<\/p>\n

“Plan ahead and avoid unnecessary travel. Consider delaying travel until conditions improve. If you are travelling on the roads, prepare yourself and your vehicle for the conditions:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Make sure your mobile phone is charged and plan your journey, including an alternative route<\/p>\n

\u2022 Have plenty of fuel, warm clothing, food, and water in case you\u2019re delayed<\/p>\n

\u2022 Do not ignore road closure signs \u2013 they are there for your safety<\/p>\n

\u2022 Congestion caused by vehicles may restrict emergency services and recovery vehicles from providing essential assistance<\/p>\n

\u2022 Listen to media broadcasts, including radio, for updates<\/p>\n

\u2022 Follow your local authority for the latest updates in your area via Facebook, X, or their website<\/p>\n

The Met Office<\/a> is urging against driving in these conditions and are encouraging people to stay indoors where possible.<\/p>\n
