Alexander Isak’s future is poised to become a little clearer following Liverpool’s rejected opening bid as Newcastle United return to the United Kingdom<\/p>\n

As Liverpool start to go through their final preparations ahead of a pre-season double-header against Athletic Bilbao on Monday, Newcastle United will return to the United Kingdom after their tour of Asia. And with it, Eddie Howe will be back playing a hands-on role in the future of star player Alexander Isak<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Magpies concluded their tour with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in Seoul on Sunday, before jetting back to Newcastle. Consequently, in the days ahead, the Swede will be reunited with his coaches and team-mates.<\/p>\n

The wantaway striker missed the Magpies\u2019 tour of the Far East due to a minor injury.<\/p>\n

Yet it later emerged that he had asked to be allowed to explore opportunities to leave the club this summer, with Liverpool <\/a>his preferred destination of choice.<\/p>\n

The Reds made their move on Friday, putting in an \u00a3110m bid only to see it rejected almost immediately.<\/p>\n

Their current position now is that, as things stand, they will not be returning with an improved bid. The ECHO <\/a>understands that Liverpool currently consider it futile to return with an improved offer, given the swiftness and clarity of Newcastle\u2019s rejection.<\/p>\n

However, that does not change the fact that the Magpies still find themselves in possession of an unhappy player who still wishes to leave the club.<\/p>\n

While Newcastle were in the Far East, Isak<\/a> had been training alone at the facilities of former club Real Sociedad in Spain.<\/p>\n

However, he returned to Tyneside over the weekend after receiving instruction from the club ahead of the Magpies\u2019 own return to the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n

Newcastle are set to conclude their pre-season schedule by facing La Liga outfits Espanyol and Atletico Madrid on Friday 8 August and Saturday 9 August, and had previously expected Isak to be available to feature in either fixture.<\/p>\n

But after drawing with Tottenham, Howe admitted he did not know where the striker would be back training with his team-mates next week following their return to England.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course I’d like him to be, but whether he will I don\u2019t know at this moment in time,\u201d he said at his post-match press conference. \u201cOther people have been dealing with that situation back at home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Admittedly, that was not the first time Howe had put such responsibility on Newcastle officials back home, having previously admitted he only found out Isak was training in Spain through the media.<\/p>\n

“I was made aware of a bid yesterday and that bid was turned down, all before I\u2019d even heard about it,” Howe said ahead of facing Spurs. “People back in England are dealing with the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don’t know what happens next. From our perspective, we still support Alex in every way and my wish is that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.”<\/p>\n

“I know where he is, really, through the media. From that perspective, it’s difficult for me to go into any kind of detail. The situation is far from ideal and is quite complex.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, after arriving in Seoul at the start of last week, Howe admitted he was yet to talk to the Newcastle hierarchy about Isak\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

“No, I haven\u2019t,\u201d he said. \u201cMainly for the fact I\u2019ve been travelling and today we\u2019ve been working on the training for this afternoon.<\/p>\n

“With these trips, they are always so intense. Of course, I\u2019m in contact with the people I need to be in contact with back at home, but it\u2019s very minimal contact when you\u2019re away.”<\/p>\n

But now returning back home, such talks can now take place face-to-face – both with club bosses and the player himself.<\/p>\n

Should he not return to training or miss Newcastle\u2019s final two friendlies, speculation about a possible move to Liverpool will only heighten. Staying away from the training ground and dodging in-person talks would send a very clear and powerful message of its own.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, the Magpies are still looking to bolster their attacking options with RB Leipzig\u2019s Benjamin Sesko and Brentford\u2019s Yoane Wissa both on their wishlist. And while that is ongoing, the Reds will continue to monitor developments from afar.<\/p>\n
