It was a definitely a day of \u201cLess cloud. More sky\u201d for the final of the 2025 Youth Skyrunning World Championships <\/strong>where athletes from 30 countries<\/strong> across five continents<\/strong> competed for the 75 medals<\/strong> at stake in Italy\u2019s Apennine mountains<\/strong> in Gran Sasso, L\u2019Aquila<\/strong>, Sunday, August 3, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Spectacular cumulous cloud formations formed a dramatic backdrop to the mountainous arena of today\u2019s SKY discipline<\/strong>, split into two separate distances according to age.<\/p>\n

Overall, 239 athletes<\/strong> participated across the two events and thanks to their excellent performances, all teams scored points. Once again, Spain<\/strong>, followed by Italy <\/strong>and Norway<\/strong>, took the biggest share with twelve countries taking<\/strong> medals: Spain, Italy, Norway, USA, Japan, Sweden, France, United Kingdom, Australia, Austria, Switzerland, <\/strong>and Germany<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The full Gran Sasso SkyRace\u00ae<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014\u00a023 km<\/strong>\u00a0long with\u00a02,226m vertical climb<\/strong>\u00a0topping out at\u00a02,533m altitude<\/strong>\u00a0was the challenge for the older C and U23 athletes, (ISF grade 2 technical difficulty). The course includes technical sections with fixed ropes ensuring a true skyrunning course for the young runners.
The younger age groups ran only the first section \u2013 9 km\u00a0long <\/strong>with a\u00a0850m vertical climb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The youngest A and B male winners marked the two fastest times <\/strong>on the short course: Spaniards Biel Sagues (B) <\/strong>in 54\u201905\u201d<\/strong> and Pol Mena (A)<\/strong> in 57\u201915\u201d<\/strong>. The female first and third fastest times were by Ingeborg Synstnes (B) <\/strong>from Norway<\/strong> in 1h09\u201909\u201d<\/strong> and Brooke Greenberg<\/strong> (A)<\/strong> from USA <\/strong>in 1h09\u201942\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t have imagined going home with three gold medals!\u201d commented Greenberg. \u201cI\u2019ve never done skyrunning before and this is a total surprise \u2013 I loved it so much. It\u2019s amazing to be in such a beautiful place surrounded by so many runners from so many countries.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Youth C <\/strong>and U23 fastest times<\/strong> over the long course were set by Spaniards<\/strong> Fabian Venero<\/strong> (U23)<\/strong> in 2h26\u201903\u201d<\/strong> and Lluis Puigvert<\/strong> (C)<\/strong> in 2h32\u201922\u201d,<\/strong> third overall<\/strong>. Venero closed a mere 41\u201d<\/strong> over \u00cfu Net<\/strong>, proving Spain\u2019s prowess across all categories. Among the women, Spaniard Dalia Alonso<\/strong> (U23)<\/strong> stopped the clock before the three-hour mark, in 2h59\u201952\u201d.<\/strong> Sweden\u2019s Agnes Josefsson<\/strong> (C)<\/strong>, set an impressive time of 3h05\u201948\u201d,<\/strong> the fourth women\u2019s time<\/strong> overall.<\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s Lluis Puigvert<\/strong> took home three gold medals<\/strong> over the weekend for the Youth C category, adding to the six<\/strong> he already collected in past editions. He beat Maximilian Meusburger <\/strong>from Austria, second,<\/strong> and UK\u2019s<\/strong> Sam Bentham, third<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was sure that I was in good shape for Friday\u2019s VERTICAL, but today I wasn\u2019t sure,\u201d said Puigvert. \u201cI\u2019m studying to become a doctor and so I don\u2019t have much time to train. I\u2019m good for shorter efforts, but when it comes to longer races, I struggle a little bit. Luckily not today!\u201d<\/p>\n

Proving her incredible form, Sweden\u2019s Agnes Josefsson,<\/strong> clinched three gold<\/strong> medals<\/strong> \u2013 in the VERTICAL, SKY <\/strong>and COMBINED<\/strong>, closing today with an almost six-minute advantage over Gabriela Lasalle <\/strong>and another minute over Nuria Llanso<\/strong>, both from Spain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s<\/strong> Fabian Venero<\/strong> took home the SKY <\/strong>title in the U23 category. Fellow countryman \u00cfu Net<\/strong> started off slowly but reduced the gap closing just 41\u201d behind for the silver<\/strong>. Briton Tom Spencer<\/strong> nailed the bronze<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really happy to add another medal to the collection,\u201d said Venero. \u201cThis time the battle was really tough with my teammate \u00cfu Net. He\u2019s a very talented runner and has won a lot of medals. This is my first participation, and I think I proved that my training paid off. Talent is important, but training is more important. \u00a0I trained hard for this result and I\u2019m really proud!\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0ninth edition<\/strong>\u00a0of the Youth Skyrunning Word Championships <\/strong>were held for the sixth time<\/strong> in Gran Sasso<\/strong>, a popular hub for young skyrunners since 2016.<\/p>\n

Wada anti-doping tests<\/strong> were carried out and the events were overseen by ISF international referees<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
