More sky\u201d for the final of the <strong>2025 Youth Skyrunning World Championships <\/strong>where athletes from <strong>30 countries<\/strong> across <strong>five continents<\/strong> competed for the <strong>75 medals<\/strong> at stake in <strong>Italy\u2019s Apennine mountains<\/strong> in <strong>Gran Sasso, L\u2019Aquila<\/strong>, <strong>Sunday, August 3, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Spectacular cumulous cloud formations formed a dramatic backdrop to the mountainous arena of today\u2019s <strong>SKY discipline<\/strong>, split into two separate distances according to age.<\/p>\n<p>Overall,<strong> 239 athletes<\/strong> participated across the two events and thanks to their excellent performances, all teams scored points. Once again, <strong>Spain<\/strong>, followed by <strong>Italy <\/strong>and <strong>Norway<\/strong>, took the biggest share with<strong> twelve countries taking<\/strong> <strong>medals: Spain, Italy, Norway, USA, Japan, Sweden, France, United Kingdom, Australia, Austria, Switzerland, <\/strong>and<strong> Germany<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18079\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Gran-Sasso-SkyRace\u00ae.-\u00a9Damiano-Benedetto-Photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1290\" height=\"860\"  \/>A spectacular perspective of the Gran Sasso SkyRace\u00ae where the course crosses from right to left across technical terrain in true skyrunning style. \u00a9Damiano Benedetto Photo<\/p>\n<p>The full <strong>Gran Sasso SkyRace\u00ae<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0<strong>23 km<\/strong>\u00a0long with\u00a0<strong>2,226m vertical climb<\/strong>\u00a0topping out at\u00a0<strong>2,533m altitude<\/strong>\u00a0was the challenge for the older C and U23 athletes, (ISF grade 2 technical difficulty). The course includes technical sections with fixed ropes ensuring a true skyrunning course for the young runners.<br \/>The younger age groups ran only the first section \u2013 <strong>9 km\u00a0long <\/strong>with a<strong>\u00a0850m vertical climb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The youngest A and B male winners marked the <strong>two fastest times <\/strong>on the short course: <strong>Spaniards Biel Sagues (B) <\/strong>in <strong>54\u201905\u201d<\/strong> and <strong>Pol Mena (A)<\/strong> in <strong>57\u201915\u201d<\/strong>. The female first and third fastest times were by <strong>Ingeborg Synstnes (B) <\/strong>from<strong> Norway<\/strong> in <strong>1h09\u201909\u201d<\/strong> and <strong>Brooke Greenberg<\/strong> <strong>(A)<\/strong> from<strong> USA <\/strong>in <strong>1h09\u201942\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t have imagined going home with three gold medals!\u201d commented Greenberg. \u201cI\u2019ve never done skyrunning before and this is a total surprise \u2013 I loved it so much. It\u2019s amazing to be in such a beautiful place surrounded by so many runners from so many countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18080\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Brooke-Greenberg-USA.-\u00a9Damiano-Benedetto-Photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1290\" height=\"860\"  \/>Fifteen-year-old American Brooke Greenberg took an incredible three gold medals in her first-ever skyrunning experience. \u00a9Damiano Benedetto Photo<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Youth C <\/strong>and<strong> U23 fastest times<\/strong> over the long course were set by <strong>Spaniards<\/strong> <strong>Fabian Venero<\/strong> <strong>(U23)<\/strong> in <strong>2h26\u201903\u201d<\/strong> and <strong>Lluis Puigvert<\/strong> <strong>(C)<\/strong> in <strong>2h32\u201922\u201d,<\/strong> <strong>third overall<\/strong>. Venero closed a mere <strong>41\u201d<\/strong> over <strong>\u00cfu Net<\/strong>, proving Spain\u2019s prowess across all categories. Among the women, <strong>Spaniard Dalia Alonso<\/strong> <strong>(U23)<\/strong> stopped the clock before the three-hour mark, in <strong>2h59\u201952\u201d.<\/strong> <strong>Sweden\u2019s Agnes Josefsson<\/strong> <strong>(C)<\/strong>, set an impressive time of <strong>3h05\u201948\u201d,<\/strong> the <strong>fourth women\u2019s time<\/strong> overall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spain\u2019s Lluis Puigvert<\/strong> took home <strong>three gold medals<\/strong> over the weekend for the Youth C category, adding to the<strong> six<\/strong> he already collected in past editions. He beat <strong>Maximilian Meusburger <\/strong>from<strong> Austria, second,<\/strong> and <strong>UK\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>Sam Bentham, third<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was sure that I was in good shape for Friday\u2019s VERTICAL, but today I wasn\u2019t sure,\u201d said Puigvert. \u201cI\u2019m studying to become a doctor and so I don\u2019t have much time to train. I\u2019m good for shorter efforts, but when it comes to longer races, I struggle a little bit. Fellow countryman <strong>\u00cfu Net<\/strong> started off slowly but reduced the gap closing just 41\u201d behind for the <strong>silver<\/strong>. <strong>Briton Tom Spencer<\/strong> nailed the <strong>bronze<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really happy to add another medal to the collection,\u201d said Venero. \u201cThis time the battle was really tough with my teammate \u00cfu Net. He\u2019s a very talented runner and has won a lot of medals. This is my first participation, and I think I proved that my training paid off. Talent is important, but training is more important. \u00a0I trained hard for this result and I\u2019m really proud!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full Japan, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, Slovakia, Sweden, United Kingdom, USA.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>ninth edition<\/strong>\u00a0of the <strong>Youth Skyrunning Word Championships <\/strong>were held for the <strong>sixth time<\/strong> in <strong>Gran Sasso<\/strong>, a popular hub for young skyrunners since 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wada anti-doping
