One day after <a href=\"https:\/\/athleticsweekly.com\/news\/zharnel-hughes-clocks-9-94-to-win-uk-100m-title-1040006735\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winning the UK 100m title in 9.94<\/a>, he stormed to a championship record of 19.90 (1.3) in the 200m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Entering the home straight with a big lead before easing further away, Hughes beat Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake\u2019s mark of 20.05 from 2022. Jereem Richards\u2019 stadium record of 19.80, however, survived.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1040006750 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2228331247-1201x800-5b2df79-750x500.jpg.webp.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\"  data- style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 750px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 750\/500;\"\/>Zharnel Hughes (Getty)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt was a good contest, I just had to work a bit in the home straight, but I trusted myself,\u201d said Hughes. \u201cYesterday\u2019s 100m win was pretty cool, but I wanted the 200m title more as it\u2019s my favourite event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cMy coach will get me a lot sharper for the championships, so I am excited to see what I can do in Tokyo. It is a shame it didn\u2019t happen today, but I didn\u2019t quite get it. Today I wasn\u2019t too bothered about the no throws, my body was feeling good and I was moving well.
