{"id":316185,"date":"2025-08-04T03:38:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T03:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/316185\/"},"modified":"2025-08-04T03:38:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T03:38:10","slug":"poland-extends-checks-on-border-with-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/316185\/","title":{"rendered":"Poland extends checks on border with Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                                                                                                                                                                                                         <strong class=\"location-names\"><br \/>\n                                        WARSAW:<\/p>\n<p>        <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Poland has extended temporary controls on the border with its EU neighbours Germany and Lithuania, Poland&#8217;s Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski said on Sunday, as the government cracks down on irregular migrants.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The relevant regulation was issued and sent to the European Commission for notification on Friday,&#8221; Kierwinski said at a meeting with regional governors.<\/p>\n<p>He said the checks, which were introduced last month after Germany imposed similar ones to stop undocumented migrants, would be extended until October 4.<\/p>\n<p>Kierwinski said increased checks and barriers on Poland&#8217;s border with Russia and Belarus had stopped irregular migrants transiting through those countries.<\/p>\n<p>He added it was now &#8220;fundamental&#8221; to close the route being used by migrants through the Baltic states of Latvia and Lithuania and then across Poland to Germany.<\/p>\n<p>Polish officials estimate that hundreds of migrants, mainly from the Middle East, are crossing into the Baltic states every month from ex-Soviet Belarus.<\/p>\n<p>EU countries within the free-movement Schengen area are allowed to impose border controls if they feel there is a threat to public order or internal security.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is full understanding on the part of our European partners, because&#8230; these decisions are intended to close the migration route that has now re-emerged through Lithuania and Latvia,&#8221; Kierwinski said.<\/p>\n<p>Border guard chief Robert Bagan said at the same meeting that border guards had checked more than 493,000 people crossing the borders with Germany and Lithuania between July 7 and August 2.<\/p>\n<p>He said that during that time border guards had refused entry into Poland to 124 foreigners at the border with Germany and 61 people at the border with Lithuania.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"WARSAW: Poland has extended temporary controls on the border with its EU neighbours Germany and Lithuania, Poland&#8217;s Interior&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":316186,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5310],"tags":[2000,299,1824,2998,26],"class_list":{"0":"post-316185","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-germany","8":"tag-eu","9":"tag-europe","10":"tag-germany","11":"tag-latest","12":"tag-world"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/114968415581850792","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/316185","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=316185"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/316185\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/316186"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=316185"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=316185"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=316185"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
