Friday brought us happy news for the Princess Royal\u2019s son, as Peter Phillips announced that he is engaged to marry his girlfriend, Harriet Sperling\u2014and he proposed with a diamond ring!<\/p>\n

Peter, 47, is the only son of the Princess Royal and the eldest grandson of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. He was previously married to Autumn Kelly, with whom he has two daughters, Savannah and Isla. In the spring of 2024, he made his first public appearance with his girlfriend, Harriet Sanders Sperling, at the Badminton Horse Trials. Since then, the two have attended several events with his uncle, King Charles III, and the rest of the royal family. They\u2019ve been photographed frequently together at events like Royal Ascot<\/a> and Wimbledon over the past year.<\/p>\n

On Friday, the couple announced that they are engaged to be married. The news, which was offered exclusively to\u00a0Hello!<\/a>, was accompanied by a statement from their PR representative: \u201cMr Peter Phillips, the son of HRH The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips and Ms Harriet Sperling, daughter of the late Mr Rupert Sanders and Mrs Mary Sanders of Gloucestershire, have today confirmed their official engagement.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement concluded, \u201cBoth families were informed jointly of the announcement and were delighted with the wonderful news of their engagement. Their Majesties The King and Queen, The Prince and Princess of Wales have been informed of the announcement. No date has been officially set for the wedding.\u201d<\/p>\n

Like Peter, 45-year-old Harriet has been married before, and she has a daughter. Like Peter, she has family roots in Gloucestershire. Her father, the late Rupert Sanders, served as the county\u2019s High Sheriff. Genealogists have also traced a distant family connection<\/a>, via marriage, between the Sanders family and the Duke of Gloucester. Harriet herself works as an NHS pediatric nurse. She is also a freelance writer<\/a>. Last year, she published a piece in\u00a0Women\u2019s Alive, a Christian women\u2019s magazine, reflecting on the bond she shares with her daughter as a single mother: \u201cThis journey has deepened my faith, teaching me to trust in God\u2019s plan and to find strength in his love.\u201d<\/p>\n
