{"id":316781,"date":"2025-08-04T09:25:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T09:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/316781\/"},"modified":"2025-08-04T09:25:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T09:25:11","slug":"paisley-charity-secures-300k-to-carry-out-lifeline-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/316781\/","title":{"rendered":"Paisley charity secures \u00a3300k to carry out lifeline work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Star Project \u2013 which works to build resilience and supportive communities amidst the on-going cost-of-living crisis \u2013 has been awarded \u00a3327,000 from The National Lottery Community Fund<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_DNP_PDE_080922sharonmcaulay_13JPG.jpg\" alt=\"Sharon McAulay, chief executive of Star Project\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Sharon McAulay, chief executive of Star Project(Image: Andrew Neil)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The future of a lifeline <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/paisley\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Paisley<\/a> charity has been secured thanks to a bumper \u00a3330k funding boost.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Star Project \u2013 which works to build resilience and supportive communities amidst the on-going cost-of-living crisis \u2013 has been awarded \u00a3327,000 from The National Lottery Community Fund (NLCF).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The money will be used to help cover the running costs of the Wallace Street charity over the next five years as it continues to support hundreds of local families.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Sharon McAulay, chief executive of Star Project, said; \u201cWe are absolutely delighted that TNLCF Scotland have chosen to continue supporting our work over the next five years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cTheir Fairer Life Chances award is towards our running costs, salaries and utilities, which have all increased due to the cost-of-living crisis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cCore funding, such as this, is vital for us to continue being responsive to the needs of our community. We can\u2019t thank them enough for helping us to make a difference to the lives of thousands of people every year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The award comes just months after Star Project celebrated its 25th birthday with a series of events including an amazing fundraiser in partnership with global superstar, and local legend, Paolo Nutini.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It was initially set up in Shortroods in 1999 in a bid to address the impacts, and the associated stigma, of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/poverty\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">poverty<\/a> and deprivation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It has grown exponentially and now delivers successful group, individual and community activities and supports that build resilience through themes of wellbeing, connections and creativity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In the past three years specifically Star has gone through a rapid period of growth, some planned, and some a legacy of the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent cost-of-living crisis; both resulting in unprecedented demand on their services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">During this time staff worked with a total of 26,398 individuals in more than 300 different ways.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Kate Still, Scotland chair of The National Lottery Community Fund, said: \u201cAt the National Lottery Community Fund we are so proud to be able to support groups like the Star Project to make a real and lasting difference and help address the challenges their communities face.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt\u2019s all made possible by National Lottery players and we\u2019re excited to see the outcomes of this project in Paisley over the months ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The funding award comes as Star Project continues to make progress with its capital project. This has seen the charity take on the lease for its neighbouring property in a move that will increase floor space by 100 per cent.
