{"id":316998,"date":"2025-08-04T11:21:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T11:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/316998\/"},"modified":"2025-08-04T11:21:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T11:21:10","slug":"northern-ireland-almost-21m-claimed-for-potholes-and-road-defects-since-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/316998\/","title":{"rendered":"Northern Ireland: Almost \u00a321m claimed for potholes and road defects since 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Northern Ireland\u2019s drivers have been awarded almost \u00a321m in road claim compensation over the past five years, with Belfast topping the league table.<\/p>\n<p>Almost 20,000 public liability claims for potholes and road defects were made between April 2020 and the end of March 2025, costing Stormont \u00a320.6m in payouts, says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northernirelandworld.com\/lifestyle\/cars\/claims-for-potholes-and-road-defects-over-last-five-years-cost-stormont-ps206m-5253859\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" title=\"\">Northern Ireland World<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024\/25, the value of claims settled by the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) amounted to \u00a35.1m \u2013 more than double the amount paid out five years ago (\u00a32m).<\/p>\n<p>While personal injury claims made up just 14 per cent of the 4,696 claims received last year, they accounted for about 76% of the total compensation awarded (\u00a33.9m). vehicle damage compensation last year amounted to \u00a31.1m, a rise of 15% on 2023\/24.
