{"id":317293,"date":"2025-08-04T14:00:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T14:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/317293\/"},"modified":"2025-08-04T14:00:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T14:00:12","slug":"london-can-overtake-san-francisco-in-ai-claims-quench-founder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/317293\/","title":{"rendered":"London can &#8216;overtake San Francisco&#8217; in AI, claims Quench founder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>London could be on track to \u201covertake San Francisco in the AI era\u201d, according to Onfido and Quench founder Husayn Kassai, as advancements in the technology reduce financial barriers.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/husaynkassai_london-could-overtake-sf-in-the-ai-era-here-activity-7358070270735122432-luNH?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAACjlVesBLeMaVFdo89jtJYNezIvyLKEJqck\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post<\/a> on LinkedIn, Kassai, who has been working in AI for over a decade, claimed that \u201cLondon has been overlooked\u201d and contains all the elements required to become the number one destination for the AI industry.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed that San Francisco has been relying on its undeniable financial advantages, but while it may have taken $300m of investor cash to produce a unicorn in the past, Kassai believes with AI, capital efficiency will increase massively, levelling the playing field.<\/p>\n<p>This would still leave San Francisco containing a huge amount of the world\u2019s best AI experts, but Kassai argued that while Silicon Valley has more talent in \u201cabsolute numbers\u201d, the question of \u201caccessible AI talent\u201d is entirely different.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTop engineers at Google or OpenAI won\u2019t join early-stage startups unless you\u2019re paying astronomical salaries or giving founder-level equity,\u201d wrote Kassai.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLondon surrounds us with world-class universities, such as Imperial, Cambridge, Oxford, and King\u2019s. The graduates here are brilliant, hungry, and actually accessible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kassai has run his businesses with locations in both London and San Francisco and noted that retention of UK engineers is far better than in California.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t build anything meaningful with constant turnover,\u201d he said. This combined with concerning immigration messaging from President Trump potentially encouraging top minds from European research to move to London instead of San Francisco to pursue the technology positions the British capital well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor building sustainable AI companies, London has been overlooked \u2013 but not for long.
