A catastrophic near 24 hours have left two dead and others injured in collisions on the streets of Birmingham<\/a> as campaigners declare a ‘road safety emergency’.<\/p>\n From 7am on Friday (August 1) to just after 3am on Saturday (August 2), paramedics tried desperately to resuscitate critically injured motorists and treat seriously wounded passengers in multiple incidents across the city.<\/p>\n The fire service closed off roads while the police investigated and in two cases informed families they had lost loved ones.<\/p>\n Read More: Taxi driver health update after crash near city Tesco left him fighting for life<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Martin Price, chair of campaign group Better Streets for Birmingham, said the tragedies underlined how dire the roads had become and they doubled down on their calls to the authorities to act now to avoid further loss of life.<\/p>\n Mr Price said: “We send our heartfelt condolences to the families and communities of those killed in Friday and Saturday’s shocking crashes on our city’s streets.<\/p>\n “Birmingham’s road safety emergency is far from slowing down and we do not accept that deaths are an inevitable part of moving around.<\/p>\n “We reissue our call to all authorities to treat the emergency as an emergency and deliver on all promises, so that no more families have to go through the most unimaginable heartbreak.”<\/p>\n The tragedies unfolded around 7am on Friday when a motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a van on Warwick Road, Acocks Green, just before 7am.<\/p>\n The victim has not been officially named, but poignant letters, balloons and an array of beautiful flowers have been placed at a wall for ‘Arslaan.’<\/p>\n Just before midnight struck, a 22-year-old driver died after his Vauxhall was involved in a collision with a black Audi and a parked vehicle on Stratford Road, near the junction of Ladypool Road, Sparkbrook.<\/a><\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong>Taxi driver fighting for life as two hurt in 3am crash outside Birmingham mosque<\/a><\/p>\n Three others were also taken to hospital with injuries.
