At this time, the film’s domestic total is now $29.2 million, with the current worldwide total sitting at $58,668,554.

With I Know What You Did Last Summer likely to slice and dice $60 million when all is said and done, Sony’s sequel is officially profitable given the film’s low $18 million budget. Very few horror movies have been able to pass $60 million so far this year, with only The Monkey, 28 Years Later, Final Destination Bloodlines, and Sinners hitting that high mark.

At the same time, this will end up being the lowest grossing theatrical release for the franchise to date. Unadjusted for inflation, the original I Know What You Did Last Summer debuted to $15.8 million back in 1997 and raked in $125.5 million total, while 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer debuted with $16.5 million and ended its run with $84 million.

The question here is whether or not $60 million is high enough to justify another sequel from Sony, which Kaytin Robinson’s movie most definitely sets itself up for. The studio was no doubt hoping for a higher end result in order to justify the return of the Fisherman to the big screen once more, but we won’t rule out another sequel just yet. Stay tuned for more as we learn it.

[Related] ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Ending Explained

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson in new legacy sequel I Know What You Did Last Summer, out now in theaters.

When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences.
