{"id":318021,"date":"2025-08-04T20:20:19","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T20:20:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/318021\/"},"modified":"2025-08-04T20:20:19","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T20:20:19","slug":"india-pushes-back-on-us-eu-criticism-over-trade-with-russia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/318021\/","title":{"rendered":"India pushes back on US, EU criticism over trade with Russia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ANKARA\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>India on Monday pushed back on criticism by the US and EU over its continued trade with Russia, asserting that New Delhi will \u201csafeguard national interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement came shortly after US President Donald Trump threatened higher tariffs on Indian imports, accusing the world\u2019s most populous nation of profiting from the resale of Russian oil.<\/p>\n<p>India\u2019s Foreign Ministry defended its position, saying the country began importing oil from Russia \u201cbecause traditional supplies were diverted to Europe after the outbreak of the Ukraine conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United States at that time actively encouraged such imports by India for strengthening global energy markets\u2019 stability,\u201d the ministry said in a statement issued after Washington imposed an unexpectedly high 25% tariff on Indian goods.<\/p>\n<p>It added that India\u2019s purchases of Russian oil \u201care meant to ensure predictable and affordable energy costs to the Indian consumer.
