Marvelous Marvin Hagler<\/a> played a significant role in one of boxing\u2019s greatest ever eras alongside Sugar Ray Leonard<\/a>, Roberto Duran and Thomas Hearns.<\/p>\n

The late great Hall of Fame inductee fought as a professional for 14 years between 1973 and 1987<\/a>, reigning as the undisputed middleweight world champion for almost half of his tenure. He made twelve successful defences of his crown against the likes of Hearns and John Mugabi.<\/p>\n

Hagler was one quarter of \u2018The Four Kings\u2019 during the eighties, the legendary group of fighters who faced each other on at least one occasion during their respective careers.<\/p>\n

In a Ring Magazine feature of \u2018Best I Faced\u2019, Hagler was tasked with revealing the best fighter he ever faced, naming Duran above all others.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would still say Roberto Duran [was the most skillful]. I loved that fight the most because between the both of us it brought out our skill.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d say Roberto Duran was [the best overall]. He was very experienced.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Hagler defeated Panamanian icon Duran via unanimous decision after a competitive 15-round showdown at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada back in November of 1983.<\/p>\n

\u2018Hands of Stone\u2019 was naturally smaller than his rivals, though did hold a victory over Leonard from their first fight in 1980. He lost later that year to the American and then again in the trilogy in 1989.<\/p>\n

Outside of the kings, Duran was one of the best lightweights the sport has ever seen.
