{"id":318135,"date":"2025-08-04T21:22:21","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T21:22:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/318135\/"},"modified":"2025-08-04T21:22:21","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T21:22:21","slug":"three-footbridges-to-improve-active-travel-in-leeds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/318135\/","title":{"rendered":"Three footbridges to improve active travel in Leeds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Leeds City Council has announced that Armley Gyratory\u2019s three brand new replacement footbridges are now open.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The bridges are part of a \u00a341.96m project to offer improved routes for pedestrians and cyclists, negotiating one of Leeds busiest junctions.<\/p>\n<p>The improved infrastructure provides links to connect Wortley and Holbeck to the city centre and was funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority via the West Yorkshire Plus Transport fund.<\/p>\n<p>Work started in January 2024 to demolish the existing footbridges and they follow highways works to the main gyratory which were completed in winter 2023.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cittimagazine.co.uk\/news\/active-travel\/leeds-proposes-road-usage-consultation-to-improve-active-travel-options.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leeds proposes road usage consultation to improve active travel options<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Overall, Leeds reported that the improvements to the Armley Gyratory provide pedestrians and cyclists with more accessible routes, increased safety for all road users, improved traffic flow and less congestion.<\/p>\n<p>The changes to the gyratory have increased vehicle capacity and helped to alleviate congestion at the junction.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin said: \u201cThese improvements will increase accessibility and make it easier and safer to walk and cycle on one of the city\u2019s busiest routes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to have delivered such an important project together as we continue to build a better-connected region for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><b><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-39961\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/CA-Feature-v2-1-300x168.png\"   alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\"\/>Achievements and innovations in active travel will be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
