{"id":318284,"date":"2025-08-04T22:49:18","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T22:49:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/318284\/"},"modified":"2025-08-04T22:49:18","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T22:49:18","slug":"teen-jailed-over-bonfire-night-riots-that-terrorised-edinburgh-communities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/318284\/","title":{"rendered":"Teen jailed over Bonfire Night riots that terrorised Edinburgh communities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 17-year-old has been locked up for 18 months after launching fireworks at police, targeting a petrol station, and terrorising residents during large-scale riots in Edinburgh last Bonfire Night.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/0_IMG_0707-1jpeg.jpg\" alt=\"Riot police pictured in Edinburgh on Bonfire Night\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Riot police pictured in Edinburgh on Bonfire Night(Image: Daily Record)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A teenager who took part in large-scale public disorder across Edinburgh during <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/bonfire-night\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"bonfire nightLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">bonfire night<\/a> last has been jailed for 18 months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/courts\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Edinburgh Sheriff CourtLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Edinburgh Sheriff Court<\/a> on Monday, August 4, after pleading guilty to charges of mobbing and rioting, as well as culpable and reckless conduct. His crimes were linked to two separate incidents in the city in October and November last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Chaos unfolded in Calder Road and Sighthill Court on November 5 when the teen joined a group who launched a sustained and violent attack on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/police-scotland\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"police officersLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">police officers<\/a>, threw fireworks near a petrol station, and caused extensive damage to property.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Buses were forced to withdraw from the area, and residents were left too frightened to leave their homes as the riot continued for more than two hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/cctv-footage\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"CCTV footageLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">CCTV footage<\/a> showed the youth throwing fireworks and rocks at officers, setting fire to bins and street furniture, and aiming pyrotechnics at parked cars and members of the public. The attack resulted in thousands of pounds\u2019 worth of damage to a local car dealership, while a nearby fire station was also targeted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The teenager also admitted involvement in a separate incident on October 5 on Princes Street and South St Andrews Street, where around 50 young people were seen setting off <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/record-view-scottish-government-must-34170402\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"fireworksLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">fireworks<\/a> at pedestrians, into the road, and at buildings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">During the hour-long disturbance, he was observed handing fireworks to others and actively participating in the violence. Members of the public were left cowering to protect themselves.
